What’s up y’all -

still on my search for a great bladed jig rod. Not really a glass rod guy, and am partial to megabass and gloomis. Mostly throwing 3/8 and 1/2 oz. Would love the rod to also be a little versatile (spinnerbaits/maybe some cranks). Anyone have any solid recommendations?

Currently leaning towards the orochi x10 bandersnatch, looks super intriguing and have a feeling it’s exactly what I’m looking for. Anyone have experience with it?

Also fishing from a kayak, so prefer something close to the 7’ range

If you dont mind me asking, why do you want a shorter rod for fishing off a kayak?

No worries at all, also open to others opinions as I’m relatively new (about 1 year) into kayak fishing. I guess I should clarify that I’m looking for a rod with a 15-ish inch or shorter handle so that I’m not constantly getting caught up in my pfd

Alpha Angler Chatterbound

Not the prettiest rod, but it was honestly game changing for me.

It's 7'2 though.     It's also the best moving bait rod I've ever owned in general.   It works just as good for a blade bait as it does a bladed jig.

Valkyrie MH.  It's widely considered THE Megabass moving bait rod on the market.  It beats out the madbull amongst those that have both.  I only have the Valkyrie but it's the most incredible moving bait rod I have ever owned.  It casts like a graphite rod then turns into butter once a fish is hooked.  I use 3/8 oz chatterbaits plus a 4 to 5 inch trailer, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, lipless and billed cranks up to 1oz.  I also throw 1/2 chatterbaits on it too but mostly use 3/8 oz out of bait preference.  I think the heaviest bait I throw is 1.1 oz and the lightest is .3 oz.  It's not a super sensitive rod and you only feel the blade of a bladed jig once the bait is close to you but you can tell when the blade is moving by the rod tip loading and resistance when the bait is way out there.  I like this because it let's me know the bait is working without being beaten over the head with the blade wobbling through the rod

I also use my Valkyrie out of a Kayak even though I shouldn't and have cheaper kayak rod but the rod is so versatile for a moving bait rod it can do all from a Fritside 5 to a Cullshad.  Also it has the adjustable length handle that's really handy when kayak fishing.  I can shorten it kayak fishing and then extend it with a DD22 or something making long casts on open water deep cranking.

I've really liked the 883C NRX+. It took a bit to warm up to it but after a few good days on the water, I was sold. It goes with me every time I'm out. Fun rod. Again,  hate the hook keeper though.

Do you prefer a faster rod like a jig rod, or a little more moderate of a rod?  The falcon head turner is my bladed jig rod.  It's more on the fast side like a standard jig rod and I fish it with mono.  Others here on BR prefer a more moderate action.  Two very different schools of thought and ways of fishing a bladed jig.  I love my head turner (it's also my spinnerbait and do anything rod), but if you prefer a more moderate action then its probably not the rod for you.

I love the 906c cbr for bladed jigs, and I fish it from a kayak.  I find the extra length really helps casting when wanting long casts from a kayak.  It is a great rod for bladed jigs, though, it is intended for deeper cranks.  If you can get hands on, I suggest you really take a look at it.  It will surprise you.  The 6 power cbr is not like other 6 power h/xh rods.  It is a 6 power cranking rod with a nice moderate flex.  Handles 1/2oz bladed jigs very nicely, and its fairly light.

I regularly fish a 7’11 swimbait rod in my kayak. However, I stand most often too… I just bought the Diablo spec-r (Orochi xx) for my bladed jig rod.

I punted and bought the Bandersnatch.  I won’t have the reel for two weeks so it will be pure speculation at the point.   I could pull a reel off something but I’m feeling lazy. :)

i could spool up an old Abu reel, but nah.

I also have both, Chatterbound and. Bandersnatch.  For bladed jigs the Chatterbound is my choice.  It’s an exceptional rod but very simplistic. The MB is apples and oranges.  What it has going for it, besides good looks, is a “regular” action.  That action will be a plus in bladed jig fishing.  It’s also pretty sweet for spinnerbaits, buzz baits and Super Spooks.

I put together an inexpensive casting combo for my oldest grandson to learn on.  He wouldn't even try it, so I delegated it for short range spinnerbaits.  It's a 6' MH Lightning.  A 1/2 oz. with Colorado blade is a bear to fish.  I'd rather use one of my 7' rods.  Very hard on the wrist with the whole rod shaking.

Shimano expride 7'2 MH glass is the best bladed jig rod I own.. I have both A and B versions... Just the action of that rod is just perfect for chatterbaits... I also have a megabass P5 javelin and nrx plus 883c which have both had chatterbaits tied on, but I prefer both of those rods for spinnerbaits.. Tip is just to fast for my liking..

How do you feel about ripping bladed jigs through thicker grass with that rod? Is that a scenario that you’d use a rod with faster tip?

Save your money for the bottom contact stuff. No need for some super high end rod to pull a bladed jig through the water

I'm waiting on a new Ark Logan 'All Chatter' rod to play with, as I drool over a dry box of new Seibert 3/8 and 1/2 Fogys.

Not too happy with Phil's prediction this morning!

I have the 7'2" MH glass in the Intenza line and it does struggle to truly rip a bladed jig through grass paired with mono, but I would think braid would offset that and allow you to rip through thick grass but still load deep into a fish.

Edit: Why does C h a t t e r b a i t auto correct to bladed jig? Happened to my post in the Latest Pics thread too. Didn't used to do that.

ive looked at that rod ,my question is can you rip through grass with it? most of my bladed jig fishing is around coontail and milfoil.

I really like my St Croix Victory 7'2" MHMF for chatter and lipless. If you are fine with slightly longer rod, I would check it out.

Wish I could answer that pal, but I don't fish them around much submerged grass, just weedlines.

I can second this.  I have the Sierra 704 (kayak fishing so I like a little shorter rod) and its a great moving bait rod with enough flex to keep them pinned.

Exactly my choices with the edge going to the Dobyns.
