@wdp, I did use my insurance to purchase the Costas, I believe our sight is be valued and good, quality sunglasses are important. Just wanted to say the difference between new Costa lenses and new glasses was almost $300.00, kind of a no brainer. And don’t think I didn’t just buy a couple of Costa croakies/lanyards before the new sunglasses have arrived, just some more insurance.

😂 Funny you mention that. My buddy who I was fishing with when I dunked my Costas, he bought 2 new lanyards for Christmas.

Your eyes are very important so don't be a cheap scape buy the best you can afford and don't listen to opinions of what people like.  You don't ask people which doctor to use when you're sick.  Go to the store that sells sunglasses and try on some or go to your ophthalmologist they fit and sell sunglasses.  I've bought cheap ones and real good ones, I stop buying cheap ones because I have a sight problem, your eye condition should tell you which glasses you need not the cost.

For what it is worth, I buy older models of Costas at decent discounts. You can buy previous seasons' colors, discontinues models, etc for far less than MSRP. I usually buy my Blackfins from Sierra for $99.

I went to my eye doctor yesterday.  I decided I would go ahead and buy some new glasses from him.  I picked out a pair that looked good on me but didn't look at the brand or price.   Then the lady told me the frames alone were $409.  A couple of nice people helped be up off the floor and I decided not to buy my glasses there.  I went to Costco and bought a nice pair for $69.  😊

This feels like an appropriate time to point out just how many brands and doctors' offices are owned by Luxxotica. They are well known for strongly recommending their own (very) expensive luxury brands. Using doctors for marketing seems, to me, to be less than ethical, but here we are.

😂 sheesh! What brand costs $409 for just frames?

FWIW, when I went hunting down WyleyX shades some years back, the manufacturer site listed a place in the town I grew up in and visit family a lot so I stopped in. It’s located in an upper crust shopping center, 45 minute from home, she wanted just over $1000. Needless to say, I didn’t get them. Found another place 45 minutes in the opposite direction in a small town. Same exact pair were under $500. There be crooks out there.

I lost my polarized glasses prescription glasses 10 days ago and needed a pair quickly for a trip to New Zealand Monday.

Costco came though with updated eye exam and picked the glasses yesterday. Exam and  Oakley frame glasses under $200.

My optometrist couldn’t see me until March!

^ Wish I could wear my dad's old Ray Bans, but they're not corrected and I need trifocals now-days.

I've been wearing WileyX for years, but last fall I tried out some Hobie sunglasses and woa! Very crisp and clear!  I'm impressed.

And...I always use Cablz on my glasses.  It only took one time to lose a pair overboard to learn my lesson (I was swatting a bee near my ear and knocked my glasses into the water).

I'm a glasses wearer and used to wear the flip down clipons.  My buddy had a pair of Cocoons that he had me try and they were far superior to the clipons.  I look like a dork but can see pretty good with the Cocoons.  They have a 2 for the price of one sale that I take advantage of.

I love the prescription Maui Jim wrap-arounds I got from my optometrist. It was hard to find a wrap-around pair that I could get due to my astigmatism. Hard to find company that could correct astigmatism on curved lenses.

I've become a big fan of Costas but I would never buy them at regular retail price.  The last two pair I got came from Macy's for next to nothing.  My wife shops there and I usually buy her jewelry for Christmas or our Anniversary.  We save up the bonus points and I use them on sunglasses.

Also if you keep your eyes open, once a year, for only one day, Costas can be found on a BOGO sale. It's usually around one of the summer holidays.

While Costa's optics are great, I find them very heavy. Is it just me?? did I bought the wrong style twice?

They offer a light weight glass.

Their glass lenses maybe are a tad heavy, but I wouldn’t recommend a glass lens for fishing anyway, too dangerous. Their plastic lenses are basically just as clear as glass and safer and lighter. Or, if you get prescription lenses, they are Trivex which clear as glass but a shatterproof, high grade and light plastic.

I bought polycarbonate for safety reasons, they are supposed to be lighter than glass, but the frames themself are very heavy.. I use Oakley now much much lighter, the frames feel cheaper but they are extremely lightweight.

Wiley X. I paid $250 shipped.

UV protection, ANSI rated, scratch resistant (optional) super light weight and comfortable. And i have the same exact pair without prescription that fits and feels exactly the same.

They are a little pricey if you buy them off sale, or start adding on different feautures. But worth it 100%.

Most fishing glasses wont hold up to a heavy lure coming back at it fast, Wiley X will. Something to think about. Look into the testing they do.

I use the same ones as @padlin. Omegas for prescription, as well as Omega Jacob Wheelers for fishing. That color scheme lets me see in the night/indoors too.

$250 for sunglasses? I only paid $260 for my no line bifocals with anti scratch, anti-glare ANSI rated lenses.

How much farther do they allow you to see into the water VS less costly sunglasses?

I started wearing UV protection clip on sunglasses at all times out of the house 20 years ago when my optometrist told me UV was the NO#1 cause of cataracts.

Clear glass, or grey/copper polarized lenses are the same price, for the options i had it wouldve been $250 either way (bought during one of their sales that they have every so often hence the lower price). The nicer polarized lens colors wouldve added an extra $120.

I havent noticed a difference in water visibility with sunglasses, polarized ones, and just my regular glasses. Maybe other brands are better, but no other brand offers the several different points of protection that these do.

Edit, their regular lenses still offer UVA and UVB protection too.

I wish my WileyX only cost $250. Try $400+ for the same ones in polarized progressives. If they were only for fishing where no one saw me I’d go the Cocoon route, although those slide down too much.

I had an eye exam yesterday & was happy to see that the optical dispenser has really expanded inventory since my eye appt 3 yrs ago. They actually had about 15 models of Costa sunglasses and about 10 varieties of Costa frames for regular glasses.

Problem was the sunglasses were crazy high priced. $324 for green mirrored Tailfin model. I priced same at Academy for $140 on sale. Even Costa website is cheaper, $220 regularly but 20% off right now.

I called Costa customer service & got some info. They will put in the Rx lenses but you have to buy the frames directly from them. Think it’ll be cheaper if I buy my own frames & have Rx lenses put in. One good piece of info I got from the customer care rep - You can get the same exact Costa 580G lenses put in by SportsRx for existing Costa frames you own. Gonna reach out to them & find out cost.
