What’s Old Is New Again

In case you need a reminder about how nothing old is ever forgotten, just shined up and rereleased after most everyone has forgotten (where’s my Ron Lindner quote?). I got this new bait release in my feed from Nishine Lure Works today. Remind you of a bait from the 1980s still considered one of the worst in bass fishing history, rereleased over a decade later by YUM to similar reviews? But maybe a new paint job, a semi-weedless hook design and a flashy spinner blade will turn it into the next great thing in 2025???

Nishine doesn't really release junk so I trust them. But...  that's got me a bit nervous lol.

I remember having a few of these as a kid. Like a lot of lures, it was hot then it's not. 

 

Nishine makes good stuff though. They make baits and lures that they like to use. So I have a confidence in their products.

Theres not enough marketing firms in the world to hype this up, unless Nishine sells it to (enter joke) 6th Sense or Googan😂 

 

It looks interesting though, has a lot happening all at once. Its got a goby head, leech body, underspin blade, and a jerkbait bill? And going off of Nishines prices im guessing somewhere between $8-10 each, without the ability to change trailer, and what looks to be a very small size more oriented to panfish like crappie?

It’s a cool unique looking thing, but same here.

The head looks like a regular tadpole to me. The whole thing looks like a tadpole. Might work well in the spring when lots of tadpoles are around.

I fell for that gimmicky Dance’s Eel over 4 decades ago & never caught a fish on it! 😂 Not falling for it again. That’s a big hard pass from me!!! 😂🤣

The resemblance to a Dancing Eel is obvious, but Storm made a short fat crankbait with a soft curly tail for many years.  I think it was called a little Tubby, but not quite sure on the name.  I never had one, but I almost pulled the trigger on this lure many times, while drooling through the Bass Pro Shops catalogues while growing up.  I am curious if any one here ever fished the Storm bait.

Jerry Rhoton was the guy who designed the Lil’ Tubby crankbait. It had a replaceable/changeable soft plastic tail. He was from Oklahoma, and a good friend of Jimmy Houston. He passed away back in 2020 at the age of 81. I always thought that bait was cool, but think I may have only ever owned one of them, and don’t believe I ever even fished with it.

I legit put a ribbon tail worm on the back of a square bill a couple days ago for fun and it looked better than I thought it would. I didn't catch any fish though.  😂😂😂😂

Picture reminds me of the little bfs Jackall baits. Jackall sells the tappy for $20 but I picked up some knock offs from Amazon for ultralight fishing and hoping they work well. I remember the Bill Dance Eel and never caught a fish on it but also didn't like it after a few casts.

Another good example you posted. Let’s just take a Norman Front Runner, put a small lip on it and then bling it up and sell it for 5X what the originals cost 😄

Very True....Your original point is spot on. So many of the new baits are simply slight mods on older ideas. The Senko was a huge revolution in fishing but is essentially a slight modification on the Slug-go which was a huge hit when it first came out.    The lure you posted made me think of the Yo-zuri Snap beans....I think those are discontinued as well.   Good Topic.
