Since I pretty much sit around all day looking for the end of YouTube, I figured I’d get out and do something…

Got hired by Cabela’s today to work in the fishing section. 50% off anything BPS branded (hello new guide wear) and 15-20% off of everything else. This could get interesting…

Congrats on the job, and that's a great way to earn some money while still staying immersed in something you love to do.

Granted all that earned money will just be funneled by into Johnny Morris's pockets 🤣

Don't forget they have a pretty good firearm dept. with a used gun rack.    Seen some pretty rare guns bought from them like USGI M1 Carbines.    Tackle monkey is married to the gun monkey 😆

congrats :) fwiw based on a recent thread I'm relatively sure their go-to swim minnow is basically the reaction innovations skinny dipper...which is already one of my favorite lures and already discounted a bit when you buy the bass pro / cabela's version...for that kind of discount I could see things getting out of hand relatively quickly...

Yeah, it most definitely will get out of hand quickly I’m afraid. Wonder if I could get 20% on a new Ranger or Nitro? 😂😂

Congratulations!!! After retiring from my career, I worked for BPS for several years. Started p/t in the fishing dept, spent a year selling boats full time then moved back to the fishing dept as a full time lead. I hope that you really enjoy your new gig. A lot of things are dependent on each particular stores management team, but I found BPS employment to be the best job that I’ve ever had. Again, congratulations!

Edit, the bait monkey and his cousin, the rod and reel monkey are going to pretty much own you. Even after giving a ton of stuff away, I still have more tackle than I’ll ever use. Same thing with rods and reels, I’m down to twenty.

It used to be better than that! I’ll send you a PM

Office Monkey GIF by Mashable

The funny thing is, my entire corporate career was in Supply Chain. I never ran into him during my corporate career, but I know dang well he talked to BPS before my interview yesterday. Pretty sure the convo went like this : “Yeah, I know him. We speak frequently. If you order something new, he’ll buy it. Stock more G Loomis - he’ll buy it. Stock MB rods - he’ll buy them. Stock JDM stuff, he’ll buy it. He’s on speed dial on my phone. I can probably get in touch with him sooner than you guys.  Your bottom line will be rewarded, as you’ll not have to pay a salary, and actually get money FROM him to work there.”

Gander Mountain tried to hire me to work in the fishing department. There were two guys looking for football jigs and the employee had them in the fly fishing section. I decided to help them out then someone else started asking me about spinnerbaits. After I helped a third person the manager approached and said I would be the employee of the week. The customers told him that I was very helpful and they were glad someone with a lot of fishing knowledge worked there. Told him I wasn't one of his employees so he offered me a job on the spot. It was too far of a drive or I would have taken it part time.

It would be nice to get a part time job at BPS.. when I'm there I give some free customer service advice to other people anyway..  1-2 hour per day and they pay me with some store credit..

Being serious, Congrats on the new job!!

I’ve had the pleasure of talking about this exact subject with @volzfan59 and if my current job offered me the opportunity I’d work there in a heartbeat for the discount.

I figured since I’m there at least weekly, and I know most of the guys in the fishing section by sight and name, why not get paid to go there? Since I live in Alabama, I can relate to the above…

@FishTank Although I’ve never had the opportunity to personally speak to you I can guarantee that statement above applies to you and quite a few others on here at least when it comes to my local BPS, not that they’re completely clueless. @bulldog1935 armed me with enough knowledge on the Stradic FL that when I purchased mine at my local BPS the sales associate made a few comments that had me thankful I have a friend in Ron and also the knowledge that many of you on here have and are willing to share.

Back in the '80s I worked part time in a tackle shop that a friend opened.  I only fished in the ocean but and was taught how to bass fish by some of the customers.

Got a job at BPS for exactly that reason, the discount.  The job only lasted a few months and I spent everything I made on everything from fishing gear to boots. Would have stuck around longer, but I got a line on driving a party bus. Bachelorette and girl's night out runs :surprised-038:are much more interesting.
