newapti5 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Yeah, I won't recommend buying rods from Amazon. I used to do that 6 years ago, and out of the 4 rods I bought, 3 of them came in broken. It's the packaging. They used those cheap flimsy triangle shape boxes instead of the common sturdy tubes. I don't know what they're using now, as I gave up buying rods from them. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted January 15 Super User Posted January 15 I bought 4 or 5 last reels through Amazon Prime. I buy a lot of stuff from them. If you are not satisfied, just ship it back. But the reels were exactly what they said they were. You might find it a little cheaper somewhere else, but you have to drive there and get it. 1 Quote

A business decision that sells more Shimano and gets better wholesale price for Amazon. The items link to a mix of Amazon warehouse and widespread Shimano vendors - the reason they show different delivery dates, and some items don't have prime free shipping. Checking braid in The Varivas Store, there's a mix of tomorrow delivery from Amazon local warehouse, mail from Varivas USA distributor, and broker shipping from Japan, reflected in the prices and delivery times. This becomes really obvious if you check Meiho. Great price on the world's greatest tackle box, but $59 to ship from Japan. But in this exercise, I found an $8 Meiho 800ND lure box delivered tomorrow - snagged it at Japan price. I have a stack of new lures that need packing for fishing trip coming up in a week. When I contacted Tica USA about spare spool for a reel I bought on Amazon, they explained it to me - no, they buy their own inventory and we don't necessarily stock or support the same reel models here My incorrect assumption had been that Tica USA was mailing out amazon orders. Glaucus Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I've order reels from Amazon. Never had a problem, and you can almost always get them much cheaper than you can from Tackle Warehouse. I've never ordered a rod from them though. My brother in law has worked at Amazon for 15 years or more. He's an engineer for them now. He told me to never order a rod from there. They're broken at an extremely high rate due to crap packaging, and Amazon takes zero care in storing them and they're often damaged right there in the warehouse. Amazon has no concept of rod care. And honestly, I wouldn't expect them to. Quote

venom Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I bought 3 rods off amazon when the pricing was ridiculously low.... only reason I tried it. All 3 off them (separate orders) came packaged in only a plastic bag covering the rod. Needless to say all but one of them was broken and one even had the tip taped to the rod lol(honestly don't know how the one survived). And the funny thing about it was I had to argue with customer service because they wanted me to send it back in a box....I told them if they would have shipped it in one we wouldn't be having this discussion. I've had great luck with reels and have not had any problems with a couple of cheap 2 piece rods. 1 Quote

Another reason to get new-stock '21 Zillion and '22 HD before they get replaced. Using Isuzu bench reel e.g., which every reel is a limited batch sold by lottery, and about four models/year, previous IAR model Chimera (Megabass Pagani) sold for JY48,950 in 2020. So far so good But it also goes back to how much you pay for certain things I’ve also ordered a bunch of lures and tackle from Amazon and haven’t had any problems. eBay on the other hand not suggested I ordered 2 reals from there and they were cheep and I couldn’t get them adjusted properly Quote

TackleWarehouse has a 60% broken rod rate when shipping to me, and twice they’ve sent me the wrong one. I think Amazon’s record with shipping rods to me is better than TW’s. Won’t stop me from ordering from either place. Any reels I’ve ordered from Amazon have come perfect, and cheaper than where I could find them elsewhere. Quote

Yeah I know, free cleaning for like 5yrs w/ US MSRP but I do that myself anyway. I wonder how much longer this will go on (avoiding US MSRP buying direct from Japan). These days it's so easy. US retailers have to be a bit perplexed on this.... This day and age it is way too easy to find the best price online including internationally. 1 Quote

Last Amazon rod order was the St. Croix Black Bass 7'3" MH/F the wife got me for my birthday - ordered on Amazon, but drop-shipped from St Croix....so came in a sturdy St. Croix tube. 1 Quote
