Battery for FFS

Going to purchase my first FFs unit and I’m wondering what amp hour lithium battery would be sufficient to run a garmin 93Sv and lvs34 for about 8 hours of use. This will be going on a kayak set up, so the less weight the better. This will be the only piece of electronics connected to the battery.

I would recommend getting 30ah just in case. I have a setup where I have two 10ah and an 18ah in line with each other for my Kayak.

 

Technically 20ah would last you 9.5 hours but I would get the extra AH’s

Remember that your 20ah battery will become a 15ah battery in a few years depending on how much you use it.  It's always good to have some extra capacity.

Add the AH up per unit and FFS and multiply that times the hours you want it to be used.  I always add a small buffer to it for padding.  The AH draw will be in the owners manuals.  I did this on my graphs.  It works great.

The difference in cost between 20/30/50 AH batteries right now is very small.  No need to scrimp unless you have a specific space constraint and can only fit a tiny one. I'm running a 30 AH for mega live and 9" helix.  That also powers my nav lights (which rarely get used) and minn kota puck (which draws two tenths of nothing for power).  I went 30 because that's the biggest that fits in my center hold hatch.  I can fish two solid days on it which means if I have a back to back I don't have to worry about charging (I only have one charger and I do the motor battery first).  I also built a shunt to connect the FF battery to the main battery/motor in case the main battery has an issue.  I've had to use it twice in two years so it was worth it.

I run a 1222 and LVS 34 all day no problem with a 50 ah ionic lithium.

Mentioned on another thread, but I run the Amped 32ah NMC battery for my 73sv and LVS32.  Also run my power pole off of it.  Unfortunately looks like it's out of stock until late feb / early march.

Just for anyone's future reading of this thread, don't forget that the NMC batteries are 15% higher voltage than LiFePo, so 32AH NMC is 37 AH equivalent in the LiFePo.  For a standalone unit plus live imaging, that's a solid battery choice for all day use.  Only tricky bit is the charger isn't the same as anything else because of the higher voltage.  If that's the only battery you're charging then its fine, but if you're using a 3 bank charger in a boat then you'll need a separate charger for the NMC.

Yes, although Amped doesn't recommend NMC batteries for a boat application:

 

"NMC batteries were build for portable fishing electronics use. They have higher energy density which means  they pack more power in smaller space. These are intended for kayaks, portable shuttles and ice fishing. These are not intended for on board or boat use. Remove them after use and bring indoors, charge only indoors and between 32-80 degrees. For on board or boat use, you want to use a LiFePO4 (12.8V or 16V) and they can be safely charged with the proper waterproof on board charger. "

Not sure what kayak you have - but I searched for the most powerful lithium battery that would power my 93x and Livescope - and it would still fit in the front hatch storage of an Autopilot. The answer is 2 batteries - Amped Outdoors 32ah and Norsk 32ah. I opted for Amped Outdoors because of the longer warranty of the two.
