bugman Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 "Best" is subjective but for my needs I like St. Croix rods. I think Croix makes great rods at every level. I own a few of their low end Triumph & Pemeire models and two avid models which are getting into the moderate level. All are made with quality components and cast and feel great. The Triumph models are assembled in China but all other models are made in USA. St. Croix has a nice web site that is worth checking out. There is a section called Rod Selector that lets you put in the type of fishing you are looking to buy a rod for and they come up with a list of suggestions. Another rod manufacture that I have been looking at is Falcon. I don't own any of their rods but that may change real soon. I think that they are also made in the U.S. Quote

Infidel. Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I love the old Techna AV rods by Fenwick but I don't like the components they use now. My favorite off the shelf rod manufacture is St. Croix. As good as any rod out there and the price tends to be lower than comparable rods from other manufactures. Quote

I would have to agree there is no best and that is because it is subject to some personal opinion. I fish loomis a ton and lamiglass. I do have one BPS 80million modulus rod that I really like too though. I have one of the new lamaglass XMG50 series rods and its is just great. But my fave still has to be the IMX and GLX. I have owned some GL3 and GL2 also but in my opinion I think for the price you can get some other rods for around that price range that are better IMO For example: The fenwick's they make a quality rod and are about the same price as the GL3 but are more sensative. Gary Loomis originated the high-end rod market with the Loomis IM-6 over 25 years ago. Gloomis offers more lineups and more technique specific rods than any other manufacturer. It's hard to believe that the Loomis GLX graphite fibers were developed over 15 years ago, and is still considered by most as the benchmark for comparison in terms of weight and sensitivity. Also, with the current trend of outsourcing rod manufacturing to overseas factories; Loomis has not waivered in producing ALL their rods right here in Woodward, Washington. I don't fish Loomis exclusively, and definitely feel other manufacturers have bridged the gap. It used to be Loomis and then the rest. Now we are offered a vast selection of high-end rods, and I also enjoy St. Croix and the higher end Daiwa's as well. Quote
fishbowl807 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 For the biggest bang for my buck it has to be Bass pro shops rods, the Extreme rod, Rick Clunn rod, Bonic Blade are all great rods and all of them are under $100 bucks. Even if you want to go to there higher end rods you are still under $200 bucks. So IMO the best rod manufacture is BPS but I also use Allstar and Daiwa L&t. Quote
