PBBrandon Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Is one reel better than the other? I’m curious because I was about to buy a Nasci for my light spinning setup. I see for 10 bucks more I could either get a Miravel or an Ultegra. Both the same price. Which is the better reel? Quote
Brian11719 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Ultegra. ^ unless you disagree that all those green check marks aren't worth another few bucks...I'd argue that you would be wrong but to each their own... 1 Quote
Brian11719 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Specifically @PBBrandon I've found that micromodule makes the ultegra / stradic / vanford noticeably smoother than the miravel and others under it...and the SARB and X-Protect will make it last longer. Add that up and I'd argue it's worth $150 vs $120...completely get that others like the miravel / nasci but from my perspective the ultegra is the better decision. 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted January 12 Posted January 12 For $10 more, as long as the extra 1/2 oz doesn't bother you (with regard to balance), I would go with a JDM Ultegra 2500SHG. My two big non-starters are balance and shallow spool. The better line lay potential is a bonus, along with a few other bullet points that don't mean as much to me if I can't get past the important (to me) stuff. Quote
Susky River Rat Posted January 12 Posted January 12 All my spinning reels are ultegras. You can get them for around $110 so I feel they are the best quality reel at an extremely reasonable price. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I have both. For that small difference in price I'd go with the Ultegra but they are both perfectly capable. Quote
Hulkster Posted January 12 Posted January 12 also the Ultegra has the one piece bail wire which is a big plus if you ask me. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 13 Super User Posted January 13 Heck, if you’re spending $110-120, why not spend an extra $30 and get a jdm stradic. 1 Quote

Thats the bait monkey talking right there lol. I have also considered moving one of my 2500 Tatulas to the light rod and getting a Vanford 2500 that would make my spinning setups look like: 7’ MF Expride B/2500 Stradic FM 7’2” MLF Poison Adrena B/2500 Vanford 6’10” MLXF Legend Tournament/2500 Tatula MQ 6’6” LF Premier/2500 Tatula LT 6’ ULF Premier/1000 Nasci FB Not sure if a 2500 is too big for a Light power rod though. And the Stradic feels a bit heavy on my PA so if I were to do that I’d probably grab a Vanford Quote

I have the 3k on a poison adrena 6’10” ultralight/medium extra fast which is more like a ml. I’ve got a 2k shimano on my 7’ light. I’d have no problem swapping them around. A 7’2” poison adrena screams for a 3k stradic for me. 1 Quote

I guess the rod was just so light it felt heavier when putting the Stradic on, but perfectly balanced. I prefer that to an unbalanced rod. I also got 30 bucks back in Amazon credit thanks to a return, so I can get another Stradic for $120. Hard to pass that up Quote

I can get that from digitaka but haven’t seen that on amazon. Quote

If it feels like it's well balanced, and otherwise OK, great. Your 6'10" ML/XF with the Tatula MQ (I believe it's an XH aka high speed model?) seems like a nearly perfect jerkbait spinning setup. I have no idea what you have it for, but I'd stand pat on that one. What about putting the Tatula LT 2500 on the M/F Expride, and getting something a little more. . . . nimble . . . . for the 6'6" L/F? Quote

Yeah the 6’10” is my dropshot/ned rod but I throw all kinds of stuff on it. I recently got the 6’8” MXF Legend Tournament casting rod for jerkbaits, but wouldn’t hesitate to throw them on the 6’10” in a pinch. I think I’m either gonna get another Stradic to put on the PA, and move the 2500 Tatula LT to the 6’6” LF or get a 2000 Ultegra for the 6’6” LF and keep a Tatula on the PA can get the Stradic for 120-130 or the Ultegra for 60 bucks with my Amazon credit 1 Quote

Note that there are two different sized 2500s. There is the C2500 and the regular 2500. I'm pretty sure the C2500 is actually a 2000 sized body with a little bigger spool while the 2500 is a 3k sized body with a shallow spool. If a 2500 sized stradic is 'too big' for you, then the C2500 is the next size smaller. Quote
WaskaCrank12 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 On the Latest Sale thread it was mentioned Dick's Sporting Goods has Ultegra's for $75 - not sure that will sway your decision making as you stated you can get one for $60 on Amazon I have a Miravel and an Ultegra - they both have their place - yet I would lean towards the Ultegra (I just ordered another one from DSG for $75) With that said a Stradic for $130 would be hard to pass up Quote
Hulkster Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I'm glad they updated the cosmetics on the new Ultegra, the blue color of the previous model looked good on its own but not that great paired with most rods (sorry I need my rods and reels to look decent together lol) the new one appears to be grey and gold and looks sharp 1 Quote
