10,000 lakes Bassin Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Any suggestions for a rod for 3/4-1.25oz bladed jigs and 1oz swimjigs? Ideally under $350. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Yep either a 7’2 heavy bass pro crankin stick rated up to 2 oz this would be my choice for that weight. or a 7’10 mag heavy bass pro crankin stick rated up to 4 oz. Both about a hundred dollars on sale. I have about 5 of them for different applications. 2 Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 11 Super User Posted January 11 Falcon cara eye crosser. At 6’11” the eye crosser is a great length for managing the heavier baits. If you’re going for longer distance casting and covering flats then the amistad is the answer. Those are my 3/4 oz and up spinnerbait/bladed jig/jig rods. 1 Quote
MediumMouthBass Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I have a KVD signature casting rod that is fantastic for throwing 3/4-1oz Big Blade Jigs and 1oz Tremor bladed jigs (with trailers these come out to 1.25-1.75oz). Really want to try 3/4-1oz footballs and swim jigs on it next. I use it alot too for 6" and 7" Daingerous unrigged swimbaits (Magdraft knockoff), depending on the Owner Beast hook used they weigh between 1.5-2oz or more. The rod feels like a MH with how nice it casts, but has the ratings for a Extra Extra Heavy. Ive thrown 2oz and over on it a bunch and it has worked very well for me, feels like it can go alot further too. Only thing i dont like about the KVD line is my hands dont feel comfortable holding the grips, really wouldve been great if they went with the ones from the TP1 line. The worst part about owning a KVD rod is the bait monkey is always demanding you buy the matching maroon reel.... These rods come in way under budget at $110, but go on sale from time to time for $66. Which is how much i paid for my 3. This might not be fancy enough but if you or anyone else is interested its the KVD CC5 composite cranking model, Heavy 7'4". 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Are you working open, deep water with these weights or hitting/bumping/ripping the deep weedlines in 15-20 fow? I almost always have a 3/4oz swim jig tied on, and swimming a 1oz swimjig and a 1.25oz bait is frequent enough. I usually prefer a long rod, 7'6-ish, for casting distance, fish braid to leader, and have numerous variations available to me for this. It's also one of my favorite things to do, so my "high end" rods went to this. loomis 904mbr (conquest) - 3/4oz swim jig in cover; open water heavy bait 5 power dobyns (XP735 & DRX755) - 3/4oz swim jig in cover; open water heavy chatterbait Expride 7'3XH - up to 1oz swim jig in the heaviest cover, ripping thru deep hydrilla. beast of a rod with a great tip and light weight for all that power. Poison Adrena 7'6XH - fishes slightly softer than the expride, but can still bulldog thru the slop. Better for the open water bite with the extra length and give at the tip Expride 7'7H - Excellent open water rod for those weights. Sweep set that mod/fast action and they stay pinned all the way to the boat. Major Craft Triple Cross - This is a 2-piece, 7'9MH, salt rod that I was hoping would be a car version of the 7'7 expride, and luckily it has been exactly that and more. Lighter tip, similar mid section, and slightly more powerful backbone to the expride. I actually like it a little better. Also the cheapest at $160 ish. All of these rods are versatile to me, covering jigs, deep cranks, small glides, big worms, spoons, etc. scott 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted January 11 Super User Posted January 11 I would encourage you to look att the NFC Edge Delta NEO 755-1. It has a very unique action that is slower in the tip but has surprisingly great power. If you throw 6 inch Mag Drafts, this model is really good. I even throw 1 1/4 ounce deep crankbaits on it and it does that very well. I’ll have to post a photo later. 1 Quote
