How about you, what are you finding out about "As You Get Older"?

  • Getting less and less tolerant of cold, wet weather for sure.
  • The doctors opening the playbook - it's a yearly game of "what's THAT??"
  • Readers are a requirement
  • Turning the light on your phone so you can read the menu
  • Catching yourself stooping while walking - when did that start??
  • More gray/missing hair
  • Aches and pains in joints, especially when getting up or bending down
  • Where'd I put my keys?
  • Watching the pop music awards and not recognizing anybody
  • Prioritizing comfort over fashion in clothing choices
  • Complaining about things being "different now" compared to when you were younger
  • Feeling more cautious when doing physical activities
  • Say goodbye to a full night's sleep

@Glenn's list is comprehensive, but for me, the number one drawback of growing older is diminishing stamina.

Indian summer

Let’s go

At least down your way it’ll have a chance to melt a little quicker

Keys on the outside of the transom? I … I …. I can’t :)

I forgot to mention…… you know how I am…… I start that motor with rip cord so the key is just for decoration 😂. Also any old key from your pocket will work if needed, probably even a flathead screwdriver

I don't mind the cold. As an avid waterfowl and big game hunter, I have learned to embrace good quality clothing, boots, hats, gloves, and those chemical body warmers(!)

I used to really hate the hot, humid summer weather. But after making some changes in my nutrition, and utilizing better clothing, it doesn't really bother me much.

As I'm getting older it takes longer to heal. Bumps, bruises and strains seem to linger.

What am I going to do with you? I should have known it was MacGyvered :)

Feeling frustrated by all that 🤔

I’m getting less tolerant of the cold as well and I work outside. Even though I don’t like the cold anymore I wouldn’t want to be a desk jockey.

Like others have said, the thing with layering up is the bulkyness and restriction of movement. It drives me nuts!

The snow and cold also screws with our production at work. If we get too much snow we can’t drill because we have to keep the roads clear for the plows. Also, our drills use water so, if it dips below 21 or so our contractors get real nervous about freezing drills. This really messes with our deadlines.

Me too! I hate the time it takes to prepare to go outside. At least knights had squire to help them don their armor.

What kind of work do you do that requires drilling?

I love our Ga. Winters but the Summer heat/humidity is brutal. My neurosurgeon said at 38 I had the back of an 85 year old and I'll turn 50 in April. My almost 97 year old trashed back governs everything I do.

Bet that armor was cold;  imagine frequent bathroom breaks.

I almost forgot, cold brings snow which makes this guy want to go out all the time and eat snow. He especially likes to wake me up two hours after I fall asleep so he can go eat the snow. So after a nice two hour nap, I’m wide awake and he’s happily sleeping with a belly full of snow. 😡

@Swamp Girl I’m a field supervisor for a fiber optic internet company and we utilize horizontal drilling to install our conduit underground which our fiber optic cable goes into the conduit.

The latest thing for me is my rotor cuffs, arthritis set in a few months ago and in both arms at seemingly the exact same time.. it hurts, bad. I’m still good on casting but idk for how long..

My reward for enjoying using my hands, laborious work ethic. I’ll use a cane pole if that’s what it comes down to 😂🤣😂

I've never been able to take the cold weather for very long.  When I go outside I need to layer up or the shivering begins.

I know all about the missing shingles on the roof and snow at the eves :)

As a matter of fact, yesterday I went for a hair cut and heard the person cutting my hair counting; “Joe, what the he11 are you doing?” “Trying to get a count of hair follicles so I can charge you accurately. I’ll lose money if I continue with a flat rate.” :(

I don’t enjoy the winters anymore either. Went out hiking today, I had on 3 layers, my wife had 4.

If monthly rentals hadn’t gone bonkers since Covid, we’d be somewhere in Florida now, which was the original plan.

Man im only in my 20s and identify heavily with half this list.

But for OP, throughout my childhood-early 20s i never knew why anyone wore coats. As i never wore one, thought there was something wrong with them. I had my AC running 24/7 365 days a year even in the cold winter. I was running hot every second of the day, and would sweat heavily year round. Dr's said blood work came back fine and couldnt figure out why.

Just a few years ago at my last job i would be outside in a short sleeve polo in 25-30 degree weather with snow coming down and then take a break in the giant freezer after from sweating while outside.

I truly loved the cold, now its my enemy. This year i started to actually need a coat, or coats plural.

Now that i can feel it, its awful. Getting older is worse.

I live in Florida now, and I don’t like the cold. I was born in West Virginia, moved around a lot, even lived in Maine for about a year. The cold never bothered me, was stationed in Nc ( Ft Bragg) for awhile, got sent to Panama. I was ruined after that. The warm weather is where it’s at, I can handle 100 degrees better than 60*.
I spent some time back in Central America after I got out of the service. Love the tropics.

My wife has like 10 blankets on, one of them is heated.

Heated blankets are the ticket for me. I bought a really thick plush one 2 years ago and level one is perfect when its above freezing but level 2 is used when its 15 degrees or colder. Level 3 and higher is like a pizza oven.

The heat from the blanket keeps my whole body warm and i believe it helps keeps my joints loose through the nite.

The worst thing for me is the hearing loss combined with tenitis, both of which get worse as time goes by.  That and chronic shoulder and wrist pain. Four hand and wrist surgeries and they want to do one on my shoulder. I'm actually working on using a left handed baitcaster.

I worked outside and inside in the cold and as long as the weather doesn't change overnight, I get aclimated to the cold. I just don't like it, so I'm moving south, maybe Missouri or Oklahoma, next year.

My father was bald except for a fringe around his head. His barber said he was going to charge him extra because he had to spend so much time finding the hair to cut.

We’ve gotten to the point for plug in throws in the family room and electric blankets under a down quilt on the bed.

Yeah unfortunately Jiggy, that's the way it goes.  I'm 58 and had a stent put in back in 2022 and am on blood thinners.  Any cold wind goes right through me.  I wear more layers now and don't go out as much this time of year as I did prior to the stent.  When I do go fishing, my trips are shorter.

I noticed it with @Fishing Rhino.  Tom stopped in October and I went year round.

I haven't been called Jiggy since Tate (probably before your time), Grampa and Jonesy was around and we use to have get togethers a couple of time a season ... you're going to the way back machine :)

BTW - we're the same age

Hahaha ... Unfortunately, Mr. Howe, we lose hair where we need it and grow it where we don't :)
