Smirak Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Ok, my son told me about the Turo app (kinda like vbro for vehicles). We have to drive to Orlando tomorrow for one of my sons’ climbing competition this week. So, we went on Turo and rented a Model S. Picked it up today and man, this thing is FAST! Owner said “I’m leaving it in insane mode for you. You can turn it off, but I want you to experience it first.” HOLY CRAP is all I can say. Once my wife needs to trade her Macan in, I will do some serious advocating for a Tesla… Also has Full Self Driving mode. Trip to Orlando should be fun! Best thing is that one of the promotions from Tesla right now is free supercharging for like 2 years, so I don’t even have to pay for the charging!! 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 10 Global Moderator Posted January 10 I think electric golf carts are a blast so I can’t imagine a Tesla. If you’re going to get one, go with a model S Plaid. 😁 Quote
Smirak Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Ummm…I just drove it 4 hrs and think I put my foot on the pedals and hands on the steering wheel only a few times… Quote

Our first x had free supercharging for life. If we didn’t have a charger installed in the house and had to use the supercharger network then I’d have never gotten rid of it. The new one doesn’t have that offer but it’s not a big deal given how much we charge at home. it’s a little clunky, but abrp has been accurate for mileage and charge times when we use it. You don’t have to factor in mountains or cold, but don’t forget about mileage running around at your destination. I plan journeys round trip as a starting point. https://abetterrouteplanner.com 5 hours ago, 12poundbass said: I think electric golf carts are a blast so I can’t imagine a Tesla. Either way, to buy it new that option costs $10k. We decided against it. With the extended range option (instead of plaid) you get some extra battery range, don’t spend $10k and still 0-60 in about 4 seconds. Quote

ONLY LEASE!!!! The government pays you to do this, and you wont take a huge loss going to sell it. EV's (mainly Tesla but really all of them) depreciate faster than a spaceship entering the atmosphere, no Tesla CEO pun intended. Look up like new used Teslas for sale, you will be shocked to see how low priced they are. A lot of guys in some of my car groups/forums bought Mach E's and lost a lot trying to sell them after 1-2 years. Quote
Susky River Rat Posted January 10 Posted January 10 The way the electric vehicles accelerate is wild. I don’t feel connected it to it though like I do an ICE. I guess that comes from racing. Not saying teslas are not fast of course they are. I even mention to my wife about getting electric for what she drives daily. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 10 Global Moderator Posted January 10 I’m surprised that Turo app is still in business after the two terrorists attacks last week Quote
Super User gim Posted January 10 Super User Posted January 10 9 hours ago, MediumMouthBass said: Look up like new used Teslas for sale, you will be shocked to see how low priced they are. That's because the original buyer received all the federal and state tax credits upon their purchase. Which may be coming to an end, at least federally. Used versions are not subject to those credits. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 10 Super User Posted January 10 we have a humble 3. it scoots!! I cant imagine a Plaid. my work car is an even MORE humble 3. the lowest end model, and that car drives surprisingly tame. its like they turned something off. hahahha.. Quote
Smirak Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 I drove it 7 hrs today from west GA to Orlando. All FSD. I think I touched the wheel/pedals a few times in 7hrs. 50-80 in less than a second… Also, I do not believe in leasing. To me, it’s like renting an apartment/house. You’re never putting equity into anything. We don’t get rid of cars every 3-4 yrs… Quote

You’re never putting equity into anything. We don’t get rid of cars every 3-4 yrs… do you feel less mentally tired compared to a normal drive? That’s what fsd does for me. I actually don’t use fsd as much as just the original assisted driving. I prefer the feature set in the middle assisted range (of the three in the options). I still am mostly driving it, choosing the lane changes, etc. Moreso than fsd. But because I’m not necessarily staring at the road, worrying about if I’m gaining on the car in front of me too closely, keeping it tight between the lanes, etc I find that my brain is more relaxed and less tired. I can watch the scenery a little here and there. 8 hours ago, Darth-Baiter said: we have a humble 3. it scoots!! It might be in comfort acceleration mode. 13 hours ago, 12poundbass said: Who wants to go 0-60 in 4 seconds when you could go 0-60 in 1.9 seconds? 😂 Honestly, that difference is really negligible other than on a track. Where the ev acceleration is great is merging/pulling out. Short on-ramp ? Go for it. Traffic on a two lane main road? Just pull out and go. You can stick it into any gap in traffic ever it seems. Super User Scott F Posted January 11 Super User Posted January 11 I have no need to go 0-60 in under 6 seconds. My next car will be an EV, but not until the next generation of battteries that cost less, charge faster and have longer range are the norm. I can wait. Quote
Smirak Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 @casts_by_fly Absolutely yes. I told my wife just a bit ago “so, this is how you feel all the time?” 😂😂 I’ve had a great time in it so far…wife said “yeah, I want to get one now”. As for charging, when I charged up still in Georgia, still cold, it did take a little longer. When I hit lake citY, FL, I was about 15% or so. Charged to 100% in about 30 mins. Yeah, that’s a wait, but I actually found it refreshing to just get out and walk around a bit. Not to mention, we also just sat in there and watched fail videos on YouTube on the “big screen”. Quote
wdp Posted January 11 Posted January 11 My wife’s sis & our bro in law have had 2 Teslas now. It’s crazy how fast they are. When he punches it, it’s a lil scary. And the self driving thing kinda freaks me out a little. 😳 They were here in early December and he let the Tesla self drive us into downtown Memphis for the Miss St vs Memphis game at the FedEx Forum. I was uneasy the whole time. Quote
Smirak Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 Forget the Tesla, I wish I was at that game! I noticed we are actually a favorite over UK tomorrow…can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen that!! 1 Quote

It was fun game to watch in person, especially when the U of Memphis fans started leaving in droves with 10 mins left. Hate we are favored against UK. We never seem to play them well. And State always seems to play the role of underdog much better than the favorite. Quote

I am never in a hurry to get to problems that need my attention.. it's a good car, nevertheless. I just charge while I sleep and the next workday, good to go. the best thing to do to coworkers is to set their Teslas into FART mode. hahah...took my old boss a week to figure out what the heck was happening. When it’s cold it will precondition the battery (warm it up) so that you get the full charge speed from the start. If you plug in dead cold (30 degrees) it will charge at like 20% speed until the battery warms which can take 20 minutes at that temp. 1 hour ago, Darth-Baiter said: it is now on comfort mode since the regular mode is fairly anemic. the single motor version is fairly vanilla in acceleration. Even if you floor it the car only accelerates at a 6-ish second 0-60 speed. Maybe even slower. home charging is awesome. We never charge away from home unless it’s a big trip. It can be about empty and in the morning it’s filled back up again. At the current gas prices it’s about 1/3-1/2 the cost per mile compared to gas. Quote
