the baitcast version is made exclusivly for dicks sporting goods and is o.k. at best.  I bought one last year for $50 because it was marked down from $139 and took it back the same week.  I kept getting an unsmooth retrieve and the reel just didnt feel comfortable to me.

Just got done servicing a Capricorn 100H BC reel. Not much to them internally, lots of plastic. I wasn't impressed.

I have 2 of the capricorn baitcasters.......and your right, if I didn't get them on sale, I wouldn't have paid the $139 full price for them. They are nothing more than a procaster with an extra bearing or 2, and a different color scheme. That beeing said, one of them is 3 years old and has held up fine, I serviced it between seasons and it fit's me, my budget, and my style of fishing well. I did like it enought to buy another last fall when the were on sale again, the new ones dick's have are orange (the older one is silver) and has a ported spool, I will fish them till they break, and then if I can't get parts toss them, but they should last me 5-6 years , I fish 3-4 days a week from april-nov., no tournaments, so the use/abuse they get is not severe.

Haven't seen a capricorn baitcaster. I do have two Capricorn spinning reels. Got "em last year from Cabela's at 50 bucks each. I like them so far. I can't comment on longevity just yet. They are very smooth, handle the line well and have a good, smooth drag. The Tackle Tour boys compared the Capricorn and the Stradic a couple of years ago, and rated the Capricorn better. They are now out of production, replaced by the Tierra. Does that mean parts will no longer be available? It probably won't be long before that's true. But, if they are anything like all the other Daiwa reels I have, they will still be going strong ten years from now.

Cheers,

GK

I almost purchased a capricorn baitcaster last year at Dick's when it was on clearence but it fell apart when the salesman was spooling the reel.  I had never seen a reel have the handle and side plate fall off when it was being spooled and this is after I had looked at it and turned the crank several times.

After that experience, I don't think I would recommend the baitcaster capricorn but the spinning reels have worked well for the people whom I know that own them.  It may have something to do with the baitcaster being a Dicks exclusive.  Is the spinning version an exclusive branded reel or is it widely available?

I bought one of the baitcasting reels 2 years ago, and I think I used it a couple of times. Now its used as a last resort back-up reel.

I wouldnt even reccomend one at the sale prices that dicks has them for.

I cannot stand that real.
