Bandersnatch Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Im waning to compare these rods, because after thinking about it, and wanting to get rid of my 7.3 Medium Heavy in favor of the NRX Plus 873 CRR, I started to think about the blanks themselves, and how different of a rod that they must be. The Adrena 7.3 is the same length as the NRX. It is very light, while the NRX is probably slightly lighter. The NRX will be slightly more sensitive, but the Adrena you certainly aren't missing bites from a sensitivity perspective. And the real seat on the Adrena and the NRX are great. I’ve always struggled to keep the adrena in my hands but that’s because Im lucky enough to have other great combos. I suppose that just means if I were to trade up to the NRX that a different combo would get more idle time. Does anybody have any experience with fishing both of these rods, or know if the 873 is that much different than the Poison Adrena 7.3 Medium Heavy? Is maybe the NRX has a little more backbone? Let me know your thoughts. Quote
PBBrandon Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I’ve never had the 873 NRX. I do however have the 7’3” MH Poison Adrena as well as a St. Croix LTB 7’3” HXF which many folks say is very close to the 873crr in terms of power and action. It’s really gonna come down to what you are wanting to throw on it. The PA is really more of a moving bait rod than a bottom contact rod like the 873. I can’t imagine a rod being more sensitive than my PAs. That being said, its more moderate action caters towards things like spinnerbaits, swim jigs, lipless cranks and such. It does make a fine Texas rig rod in a pinch as well thanks to how darn sensitive the thing is. Now if you are planning on mostly throwing T-rigs and jigs, you might want to trade that moderate/fast bend for the faster taper and a beefier backbone for setting those thick jig hooks. That’s where the NRX would excel. My LTB has a pretty soft tip, soft enough to throw T-rigs down to 1/4oz, but it locks in to a true heavy backbone. The NRX will probably be a bit lighter than the PA, but Loomis rods are not known for being very well balanced if that bothers you. If you can hold one in a store, that would give you a better idea. I’m not sure what the rest of your rod locker looks like, but the 7’3” MH PA and the 873crr really do compliment each-other very well. That PA might be the best moving bait rod on the market and 873 might be the best bottom contact rod out there. If I could only have 2 MH rods I’d probably roll with both of those. 1 Quote
Maverick2017 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Keep in mind OP is asking about the 2nd gen Adrena which is the current release. These are touted as being more geared toward the NA market. The prior gen 73mh made a great spinnerbait rod due to the slower tip. Quote

Oh my bad, I thought there was a PA prior to the 2018 model making the new one the 3rd gen model 1 Quote

softwateronly Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I dont know the 873, but from what I heard it sounds closest to the PA 7'2H. I agree with @PBBrandon assessment that they compliment each other more than they compete. At the same time, before I broke my PA 7'3MH, I struggled to find a frequent spot for it. I'm 80/20 single hook to treble ratio. scott 1 1 Quote
KP Duty Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I don't own the PA...I have the Glorious 7'4"MH and 873. The 873 is going to be more powerful/stiffer than any Jackal MH. Don't let the lure rating fool you. 1 1 Quote
Bandersnatch Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 Wouldn’t the 73mh adren (gen 2) be a good swim jig rod ? Quote

wonkyrig Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I'm liking the Adrena more every time I fish with it, love the way it loads. In my head, it's for different applications than the CRR. It's been a great spinnerbait rod so far. 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 13 Super User Posted January 13 I have the 873 nrx+ and the gen2 7’2H adrena. Nrx is, to me, much more sensitive. They’re comparable in power with the 873 being the more powerful of the two. Adrena balances like a dream. 873 is also good. Adrena is a more moderate than the nrx as well. Not much but noticeable . 2 1 Quote
