Hello @ArcForce and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Interesting first post.

I'd say you can't please every one

so you gotta please yourself.

I don't even keep my fish.  I throw them all back.  Why would you care if someone catches more of a fish you are just going to throw back in the water.  Never understood how this became something to brag about.  Its not like you're selling them or eating them for sustenance.

You are catching them and throwing them back because it's fun.  That's why we do this.  If there is anything to brag about its who had more fun doing it.  If you like fishing rods and reels and enjoy catching and throwing back fish with nice ones you bought and personalized then you win.   You had fun with just your fishing equipment before even getting on the water.  You get to use it and catch fish too?  Win win win.

People will judge you by the tackle you use.  Some will hate you because they're jealous of your high end rod.  Others will look down on you if you use a spin casting reel.  Women will follow you around screaming like you're a rock start if you use a JDM reel.  It just part of fishing.  😊

The biggest culprits around here are hunters. They scoff at expensive boats and fishing rods etc and brag about their tin rig catching as many fish. But then drop $25k+ a year on a hunting lease with a $20k side by side, $3k rifle, Sitka camo, and Swarvski binoculars to kill 2 does and a 6 point.

I know a lot of hunters and I am avid hunter myself.  Anyone who is paying what you describe is an idiot.  Certainly non-resident guided big game hunts are expensive, but the common hunter out there is not doling out 50 grand/year to hunt.

By far the most expensive fishing-related item I own is my boat.  By comparison, the most expensive hunting-related item I own is probably my dog.

To the OP, I've never had anyone hate on gear.  Most people are jealous of the outdoor opportunites I have and take advantage of.

They love borrowing my tackle

There are a few things I refuse to loan:  Fishing tackle, chain saws, my boat, firearms.  I will let others use my tackle in my boat with me, but no other way.

I just tell people if I want it and can afford it I’ll get it. Plain and simple. I’ve been through the days of pinching pennies to do the bare minimum. I thankfully am not there any longer. Having nice things are the reward you get for working hard and making good choices most of the time.

Enjoy life. You’ll never know how a steez, zillion, bantam, Metanuim etc feels to you try it.

Start utilizing backreel instead of drag if you really want to make them angry 🤣

Love this way of thinking

Especially the last 2 sentences

I'm assuming you want to see the rod and reel and not my actual tacklebox. It's definitely not the craziest rod in the world, but a massive step up from my 6' Medium Fast Ugly Stick Elite w/ abu garcia black max (which I still love for most things)

Rod is a 7'2 MH Moderate fast action Fiberglass Shimano Poison Adrena Casting rod

The reel is a DAIWA Tatula SV 8.1:1

which I've just realized when taking it out of the box, isn't what I intended to order. I wanted a 7.3:1 so I might have to send it back and get a lower gear ratio

I'd welcome any of your opinions if you'd care to share your expertise on why this may or may not be the rod I want it to be for chatterbait fishing. I'm worried the tip may be a little too slow, and now very concerned that my reel may be too fast.

I did my best research into the technique and this was the combo I came up with, and purchased based on the boxing day sales that were available to me

Also apparently my pictures file sizes are too big to upload.. even 1 photo is over the limit 🤔

Just wanted to push this post to the top of the list as I have a question I was hoping to have answered in here and where I'm new my posts need to be approved by a mod so all of my posts are delayed by an hour or more and will be getting skipped over

I'd also welcome a recommendation on line choice for this set up, with my choice lure primarily being chatterbait and likely a little damiki rig/fluke experimentation to be expected

Your money, your toys/tools. Do you like it? Too many folks nowadays are concerned with others opinions.

On the other hand, I've got a couple good friends that I give grief about their Ford & Dodge trucks. They of course don't like my Chevrolet.

My '94 GMC was a good truck, but I replaced Every peripheral, including the A/C after 100k - it was Dead Do Not Revive at 218k - window lifts worked.

My '05 F150 made 256k without a single repair or replacing a single peripheral - ok, I had to repair a window lift - it's Ford - finally drove it the back roads slipping 3rd for $1000 trade-in.

Ford dealer waved, "See you again in 18 years."

I just bought my first nice setup, and I don't think I've ever been so excited to wet a line. I live on the east coast of Canada, so our fishing season is over in spring (aside from ice fishing if you're set up for that, which I'm not)

Anyways, I just got my gear in the mail, and everyone I talk about my new setup to seems to be hating on the fact that I spent some money on it.

Has anyone else experienced this? I just want to be able to be proud of what I bought and not have someone throw it in my face that they can catch as many fish on their $80 ugly stick combo. It took a lot or research, and I put a lot of thought into the combo before I bought it and I'm just getting **** on for it

My thinking. Who cares what someone else thinks or says. Did they pay for your rig? If you want to spend a little or a lot more money to get what you want. Go for it. You work for it. Spend it how you see fit.
Enjoy the new rig. Well.. enjoy it when it warms up. lol.

I'd say if you want it, as long as you have the money, have plenty of food on the table, your kids have good shoes...and your wife says okay, then buy what you want. Those folks are probably just jealous. I literally have a river cane pole rigged with twine and mono that i catch fish with... but i also have several rods and reels that I've spent hundreds on.  Ignore them.

There came a point in my life when I made a conscious decision: I would no longer care... at all ... about anyone's opinion regarding me if I do not respect them and their opinions.  It was, and is, liberating.

Who gives a rats about what you bought and how much you did or did not spend?  That's a level of pettiness that cannot be helped.  You don't need people like that in your life.  They'll only bring you down and try to prevent you from achieving your goals. Replace them with better friends that support you and cheer you on!

Can I room with you after I tell my wife she’s being petty over my gear? 😁

Words are good, but I say again - this post is useless without pics…

I mean - how do you expect us to hate on your gear if you don’t even show us 😂😂

Would you two nice people be interested in adopting a 65 yr old man ?

I'm really just a big kid at heart.

No really . . . I have my own dog and everything.
