Where did the OP go? All this fine advice just waiting to change his life forever and he runs away..🤣

I'm afraid his haters might have killed him because of his gear.   People have become so passionate about fishing tackle these day.  😆

I just bought my first nice setup, and I don't think I've ever been so excited to wet a line. I live on the east coast of Canada, so our fishing season is over in spring (aside from ice fishing if you're set up for that, which I'm not)

Anyways, I just got my gear in the mail, and everyone I talk about my new setup to seems to be hating on the fact that I spent some money on it.

Has anyone else experienced this? I just want to be able to be proud of what I bought and not have someone throw it in my face that they can catch as many fish on their $80 ugly stick combo. It took a lot or research, and I put a lot of thought into the combo before I bought it and I'm just getting **** on for it

Who goes and talks to other people about their new setup?  If they see it and say som, ething then sure but in random conversation with other people who fish nah and now you are just humblebragging and tryig to play a victim.  Take it as a lesson and if you are telling everyone about your new set up then who did you really buy it for?

I think it is normal to talk to your friends about new niche-specific gear, especially when you're all fishing the same niche that requires specialized gear.  Here's why I bought it, and why it will improve light reach, catch rate, etc.

First time I loaned XUL rockfish rod to my buddy Lou and his wife, he went inside and ordered himself one that evening - ok, his excuse was ordering for her.

Sometimes. Not everyone understands everyone else's hobbies, and not everyone has a hobby they are passionate enough about to invest in. If you fish often, and fish hard, it behooves you to have quality gear that A ) You will enjoy using more, and B ) Will be more effective. I, unfortunately, only have very expensive hobbies, so I am out money no matter what.

Firstly, welcome to BassResource.

Secondly, who cares what anyone says about your gear?  If you're happy with it, fish and enjoy it.

Thirdly, the only 'gear hate' I have is that I can't use my gear now because we're iced out.

Delivery guy: Can you sign for the package ma'am ?

My wife : sure

Delivery guy: what's in here anyway ?

My wife : a fishing rod.

Delivery guy: you only have to sign if the value is over $ 500. Who buys a $ 500 fishing rod ?

my wife : my husband.
