PBBrandon Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Been looking into getting a Miravel for my 6’6” Light 2pc St. Croix Premier. What size reel should I pair with it? Leaning towards a 2000 size shallow spool. Any thoughts? Likely gonna be using 4-6lb copoly for crappie fishing and small ned rigs 2 Quote
Big Hands Posted January 5 Posted January 5 That's about where I would at least begin my search. 2000 shallow spool reels should have all the capacity you need, and not much extra capacity that you don't need. After that, I would be looking at balance, and you won't really know that until you get one in your hands, or a reel that weighs close to the same. To me, even an ounce of reel weight makes a significant difference on a rod like that. 3 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 5 Super User Posted January 5 Suggest Shimano NASCI FC size 1000 and spool with Maxima 5# UG copoly line. Tom 3 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 6 Super User Posted January 6 A 1 or 2k would work. I prefer a little heavier to eliminate tip weight so would go a 2k. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 6 Super User Posted January 6 6’6” spinning rod the balance point should be the center of the reel seat on the rod referenced, reel weight is negated. Reel size differs on weight for each mfr and model. I suggested the specific 1000 reel for its excellent reputation, smooth drag and performance at the price point. 1000 size reels have slower IPT and gear ratio’s, advantage for the OP’s use. Eric 26 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I have the 2000 sized shallow spool Miravel mounted on a 6’-8” bps panfish elite ultralight rod with 8 pound Daiwa J-braid x-8 and I find the spool capacity is lacking for my needs of shore fishing. The specs say it will hold a 100 yards of 4 pound power pro but I’ll be darned if I can find 4 pound power pro for sale anywhere which is leading me to either 6 pound J-braid or 4 pound braid from overseas. My point is depending on your capacity needs be mindful. 3 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 6 Super User Posted January 6 I have 2 6’6” St Croix Premier rods like yours. I use them for crappie and have them rigged with Shimano 1000 reels and 10# Power Pro braid. I also use them for white bass. 2 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted January 6 Super User Posted January 6 No weight difference between 1000 and 2000 size - only difference is 2 mm of spool diameter. JDM Stradic chart C2000SHG is the same reel as USM 1000HG C2000-F6 (small-frame Vanquish and Vanford are both 40 g lighter); 1000S 2 Quote
Hulkster Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I have a Nasci 1000 spooled with 6 pound Sufix Siege on my Imx Pro Light spinning rod. its great 1 Quote
PBBrandon Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Seems like a 1000 Nasci is the way to go. I had a 2000 Regal on it for a while til I tore it up in the saltwater. That reel was 6.7oz and it was a tad tip heavy. I currently have a 1000 Nasci FB on my ultralight setup and it works great. the 1000 Nasci FC I see is 7.2oz which should be perfect. I also did notice TW has a 2000 size Procyon AL on sale for $109 which catches my eye too. I’ll probably get the Nasci though since I can get it for 70-80. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted January 7 Super User Posted January 7 I use an Edge rod, 7’ light/fast two piece. Mounted on it is a JDM 2500 Vanford with a shallow spool. I run 2-4 pound test co-poly. I love it, it’s a blast. 2 Quote
