6.5pounder Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Has anyone got this reel if so what did you buy it for and where did you get it. Thanks Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 They are a BPS exclusive reel......looks to me to be a rebadged Accurist, with an extra bearing. I don't think they are bad reel's. I just bought an Accurist, have yet to test it, but it seems nice. I actually am thinking of getting the KVD reel w/ the BPS Pro Qualifier Rod combo that they have listed for $169. The reel is $99, and the rod is $119 by themselves, so it's a pretty good deal. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 Gosh ww2farmer, We seem to have plenty of very positive comments on BPS products and BPS combinations are probably the MOST recommended systems here a BassResource.com. Personally, I think (and have recommended) BPS combinations ON SALE to everyone at a particular pricing point. I think buying a combination from a major retailer is the VERY BEST value in fishing equipment, period! My standard advice for anyone able to spend about $150 on a rod & reel is to by one of these combinations that has a retail value approaching $250. That's a great deal and very good equipment for most fishermen. There might be some advantages that we sometimes address for those that are looking for and can afford higher end gear, but that is NOT a prerequisite here. So...I appreciate your POSITIVE comments and hope NO ONE will respond as you have suggested, in a negative or one-up-man-ship manner. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 Your right RW.......I am in a bad mood today.......got heart burn, and it's a whopping -4 degrees out right now........longest winter of my life, waiting for my new boat to arrive.........sorry I removed that comment. TournyFish001 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I got a kvd quantum for xmas last year- not bad but very heavy- for the price it is very reasonable. I have been ruined by higher end reels and so has my pocket change. If that is your price range go for it- obviously there are better reels but the price tag increases as well. Quote
NBR Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 6.5 Pounder, I can't speak with personal experience but a guy I fish with pretty often bought 1 about 3 years ago. Liked it and bought another. I think he now has 3. He fishes 3 or 4 days a week in the summer; plus at least a 2 week vacation. He works them pretty hard and is very satisfied. Quote
Bluecraw Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 You better get a rain-check from BPS on the KVD. They were just on sale for $79.99, now back up to $99.99. I've had a KVD and if you're gonna spend $100 bucks on a reel get the Abu Garcia Revo S...I would say it's one of the best reels in that price range..... .....just get ready for the Shimano Posse to tear me up..... Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I have serviced a couple of the KVD sig reels. The KVD KV600CB, and KV600CXC, are nothing more than the old Quantum E600's revamped for his signature. Quote
Mid-MO Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I bought one this winter but haven't been gotten to use it yet. I got it for $69 after it was on a sale and I had a $10 off coupon. I looked at it and the accurist. The accurist said it had permanent lubrication with Hot Sauce but the VanDam didn't say anything about that. I asked the guy behind the desk but he couldn't tell me if the VanDam model did as well. I looked in the catalog and it didn't mention it for either reel. Quote
Banor Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I used that combo for my spinnerbait/chatterbait presentations for half of last season until it ended up swimming with the fishes. (over zealous 9 year old son). I would recommend this combo with a 2 thumbs up if it fits in your price point. If you've got more cash there are always better combos out there for a price. ;D Stupid bait monkey. If this is what your budget will allow then I would say you wont find a better combo for the price. So if you want to buy the reel and can afford it, buy the combo. The savings is worth it! B Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I have a combo I put to gether my self and I am lovin it Risk Kid sent me a 6'6" Woo Davies BPS Etreme Worm Rod Then I got the old Prodigy BC reel from Cabelas for 69 Bucks plus I had a cupon got it for 49 bucks I have been practicing with this oufit and I really like it I am taking it to the Fork I was going to get an old Exterme Reel that BPS had on sale but Im set now 3 bc's and one spinning outfit and Im happy for now Just an observation Both BPS and Cbelas have great house brand Reels and Rods I think BPS has a much wider selection thought Neither Company has let me down Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Mid-MO, I looked at it and the accurist. I looked in the catalog and it didn't mention it for either reel. There is no such thing as permanent lubrication in fishing reels. The hot sauce is a gimmick, has a red dye in it that leaves a red coloring on anything it touches, and leaves the impression that the oil or grease is still there, even when it isn't.Tight Lines All!! skeeter944 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I reccomend either the new extreme combo from Bass Pro,or the Abu Garcia Revo S with a Bionic Blade rod for $160,personally,I would go with the extreme combo,it is a very smooth reel with a fairly lightweight rod. Quote
Mid-MO Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 ReelMech - Thanks for that information. I hadn't heard or seen anything about that until I started looking at the two models side by side. The guy helping me didn't seem to have a clue either. Good to know. Quote
