I’m tempted by the Megabass Orochis now that they’re sub $200 but I’ve read quite a few bad reviews. Do they really break that easily?

My perfect pitch has held up great, I have had it 3 years and put it through some hard work no issues with mine.

(I have no personal experience, just echoing what TW reviews say)

The reviews are split about 40/60 on either being brittle or very durable and lasting a long time.

As usual for rods lots of factors come into play on why one could snap, but this has more people saying it about this model of rods compared to most.

But its worth noting that the good reviews are praising this rod, and the people that got a good one love it. Plus its on sale, and is a Megabass product. If you want one now is the time.

Exploded mine. And that was the first rod i break in over 10 years.

What model?

I have the perfect pitch and tour versatile and they’re great.  Having said that… I may have cursed myself 😕

I’ve only snapped 2 rods in 50 years of fishing - Orochi Braillist and Perfect Pitch. I thought both rods were a bit tip heavy as well for the price range.

Thanks for the replies, gents!

the 6.10 medium one. Loved it before it exploded, tho. Very good rod for the price.

Wasn't this a temporary issue about 4-5 years ago?  They disappeared from the market for a month or three and then all those issues weren't talked about online anymore.  Something similar happened with the clear coat on the poison adrena rod line.  Neither was acknowledged by the companies as far as I can remember.  I don't own an Orochi, but I hear mostly very happy customers and at $200 seems like a good deal to me.

That was the early 2nd gen Levantes.  I do think the orochi xx and xxx are on the brittle side.  I had an xxx BE2 that I snapped the tip off trying to untangle a group of rods.  It was user error but I probably have user errored many rods in the past the same way and they didn't just give up and break off a tip like that.  It turned me off on that gen of orochi xx and I am a big fan of the previous generation rods.  Those 1st gen rods were tanks but heavy.  I also like that the snake skin theme of the 1st gens came from the natural appearance of their carbon wrap instead of 2nd gens purely cosmetic skin.  The brittle blanks, nub trigger and cheesy wrap on the blank turned me off to the 2nd gen rods so I never picked an xx or another xxx rod up.

Thanks for all the info, guys. Good to know that they have that same small trigger like the Levantes. That drives me nuts about mine.

I just picked up a tour versatile and a Diablo spec-r. Tossed them around a bit and it was money. Tour versatile and my new tatula spooled out a 1/2oz jig with just a flick of the wrist. Had my Diablo loaded with a spinner bait. I need to dial that one in a little better, but all in all, I like them. Now, I’ve only had them about a month or so, so long term I can’t answer…
