MediumMouthBass Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Went to TW to try to buy a few TP1X rods and it seems that they and the TP1 Black rods are no longer being made since Lews discontinued both.... I know these rods had much better alternatives in the price range for their MSRP, but i think we all know by now Lews products are almost always sold at 25-40% off MSRP throughout the year. So for the $66 i picked my only one up for last year i love the rod, the 3 KVDs i paid the same price for however i cant stand. I really shouldve just bought 4 of the TP1X's. However Lews has a few new rods on the market, #1 being the LFS series and #2 the TP2 Gen 3. (Sadly theres no pearlescent white TP2X rods) But both the new rods have dozens of options, from 1 piece, 2 piece, to cranking specific models. Again with what i stated above, for the $100-130 they cost MSRP these rods are no where near the competition for that price, but if Lews keeps being Lews im sure these will sell at some point for about $60-80 on sale. These released recently so theres no reviews, and not much information other than what TW has on their website for them. And im not very knowledgeable when it comes to Lews rods as i always thought theres better ones out there for the money. The KVD proved that, but the TP1X changed my mind. So to the guys who know alot about the materials, etc, or are big into Lews rods will either of the new rods be worth buying? Are these better, worse, or the same compared to the previous gen? 1 Quote
Brian11719 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 The old TP-1 Black was a good rod. I bought a couple (on sale) and kept the 7'4 heavy as my frog rod and have been happy with it. It's a HM50 blank. The white TP1X models were a HM40 blank and I wasn't a huge fan of those but they were ok. The new ones are a HM45 blank so apparently they are using a new blank that's about in the middle of the last two and the rest of the materials appear to be about the same. The retail on the new ones is $99 so it's a bit of a downgrade from the old TP-1 Black models in terms of the blank modulus, but it's also at the same price as the old TP1X so it seems like they just combined those to to give you one that's in the middle in terms of quality for the price of the lower one. Haven't used it but yet but it's probably not bad and they probably just decided to combine them rather than continue to sell both because business reasons. I actually liked the old HM50 blank they made a lot (even more than some of the newer custom lite models) but I'm also weird when it comes to blanks. If you like the old white ones they have been on clearance at Dick's Sporting Goods for a while now for like $40 and while they weren't my personal favorite I'm not going to argue that's a good deal for those and you might still be able to grab one if you have a store near you that sells fishing gear. Otherwise I suspect the new ones aren't all that bad in terms of bang for the buck... 1 1 Quote
