Bandersnatch Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I own one, at one point owned two. I’ve always loved the balance.c overall lightness and how small the reel set feels. Admittedly, I’m lucky enough to have nicer rods that my nicest reels sit on so I’ve not found the one for this. At the same time, I’ve always found it difficult to keep this rod in my hand because it’s not specific and most of my other rods I’ve got uses for. So what do you use it for? What reel do you love on it ? Speaking about the gen 2, the one right before this new one. Quote
PBBrandon Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I have that 7’3” MH PA and throw mostly spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/swim jigs on it. It’s paired with a 7:1 Alphas SV. I’ve Texas rigged with it as well but prefer a faster rod for setting the hook with t-rigs and jigs. Great all-round moving bait rod. Almost like the Shimano counterpart to the Dobyns Champ 734c 1 1 Quote
Maverick2017 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I used mine as a spinnerbait and chatter bait rod….great rod for that technique. With braid, It was a sweet light texas rig rod. This new generation is much more stouter and geared towards USDM techniques. With that said, the new version 7’3” MH is a perfect texas rig/jig rod. 1 1 Quote
Bandersnatch Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 While I think the gen two has a soft tip making it great for moving baits it’s got plenty of backbone to set the hook on a jig or Texas rig. Anymore fast turns it into to your point an exclusive jig rod. Quote
Junger Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 PAD173MHA, I use it for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits too, paired with a Curado150 MGL and 40lb braid. I can't remember the last fish on lost on this combo, I really like the modfast+ tip. 1 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Like previous posters I found it excelled at single hook chuck and wind baits such as chatterbaits, swimjigs, and spinnerbaits. I wound up selling it to @softwateronly a few years back because I wanted a shorter rod, maybe he can chime in on it too. 1 1 Quote

Had my deck crowded and when I picked it up, it pivoted off my foot to under the cleat and crushed the sidewall. I think @PBBrandon said it best, it's shimano's version of the champ 734. I did find it more sensitive than the champ though. I liked it best for topwater trebles, smaller open hook swimbaits, and spoons. Open water swim jig and chatterbait was good too, and enjoyed smaller/lighter jig fishing in open to sparse weeds. I replaced it with a MC Days 6'9MH/RF 2 piece, for a third the price and it's close to being equal. The PA 6'11M+ is the rod in the series that I've tried, that I would instantly replace if I broke it. scott Quote

I fished an Aldebaran mgl on mine for awhile but i ultimately sold it due to line capacity Quote

The PA's are so light but are also well balanced, the met feels perfect on them to me. scott 1 Quote

Really you could put anything on it thanks to how light and balanced it is. I don’t think the balance of Shimano rods gets talked about enough 1 Quote

Between the lightness of the rod, the balance, and the awesome reel seat it really is a fantastic rod. 1 Quote
