Super User eyedabassman Posted February 5, 2007 Super User Posted February 5, 2007 I want to fish fluorocarbon line on most of my rigs. And I know that this has been talked about at some time,so bear with me. I just want what you guys think is the best fluo. line to use? I don't know if I like the Vanish, in the past I have had a problem with it. My bud thinks Seaguar is the best. So your input will help alot. :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :o Quote
WCCT Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 You are going to get a lot of opinions on this one I personally like XPS Fluorocarbon. It has performed really well for me. I am however, going to give Gamma and Yozuri a try this year as well. I have heard good things about both. I know people who fish Vanish and love it. Not me. I can't stand it at all. Seems too brittle. Quote
justfishin Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Why not just use a good mono copolymer? Why do you want to use fluorocarbon? All of these new lines like braid and fluorocarbon have a lot of idiosyncrasies that you have to think about while using them. Its hard to beat a good low vis green line such as Big Game for baitcasters and AN40 for spinning reels.JMO Quote
The_Natural Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 You ought to try Cabelas No-Vis, a.ka. Seaguar Carbon Pro, or Cabelas new No-Vis Extra, a.k.a. Seaguar Inviz-X. I love the No-Vis, the the No-Vis X-tra or Inviz-X stretches waaay too much. Bass Pro's XPS is very good as well, and available in bulk spools. I do like Vanish as well, and think it has an undeserved bad rap. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 5, 2007 Super User Posted February 5, 2007 Vanish has a bad rap because the original formula was too brittle and the line line was prone to break without apparant cause. The line was also VERY stiff and unmanageable, especially in larger diameters. The old formula was simply undependable. The new formula is probably much better, but for those of us that were burned once, most will never give Vanish another try. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I have been using Vanish for 3-4 years without a hitch for jigs and worm fishing. I am really happy with this line and will continue to use it. I'm not sure which formula I have used but it has served me well since I started using the Trilene knot. Prior to changing knots I did experience some line failure in the knot. Zero failures since changing and I have been told the palimar knot works well also..........JMHO...............Al Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Saeguar is my favorite. A good friend of mine, who fishes a lot of tournaments, and uses flouro about 1/2 of the time, uses it, and he has tried them all. he is not sponsored by anyone, so this is objective advice. Quote
deadeye32. Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 i'v used vanish florocarbon for about 3 years now for most of my soft plastics and topwaters and have had no real problems with it. I condition my line with reel & line magic, so that seems to help, but I like the no stretch qualities especially for topwater baits and I find it easier to cast than braided line. IMO. Quote
justtrying Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 i've got Lots of yo-zuri ..and, it's pretty good. i have changed, however, back to P Line fluoroclear 10 lb on a couple of my chronarch 50mg's. it just seems to be more sensitive, has less memory, & let's you cast a bait Much further than any other i've tried. Lucky Craft Man Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I've used BPS, P-Line, and Vanish florocarbon. As mentioned before, I had a terrible time with Vanish. It kept breaking when I just hand tightened my knots. P-Line and BPS florocarbon have worked quite well for me. i'v used vanish florocarbon for about 3 years now for...topwaters and have had no real problems with it. I tried florocarbon on my topwater rod and halfway through my retrieve (usually with the sammy or zara spook) the lure sinks under the water. I had to switch back to mono (which floats). Quote
Fisherman Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid exclusively; just love it... Quote
Mid-MO Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I tried P-Line last spring and wasn't a big fan due the memory of it. I bought some Seaguar after that and liked it a lot better. I ended up buying some more of it this winter. I also started using reel magic on it which probably helped as well. Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I love P-Line. Their flourocarbon is hard to beat. I have tried the new Vanish Transition, it's easy to see. That is all I have to say about it. It is moe sturdy than the original, but... I have yet to find a pure flouro I really liked. Also, I wouldn.t throw a topwater on it, for reasons mentioned above. SFD0124 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I started using 10lb Vanish Transition on one of my rods this fall. I caught a lot of bass in October without any problems. I notice if you don't properly lube the line before cinching the knot you can easily snap the line at the knot. If in doubt I re-tie my palomar. Quote
