piketyson Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Is going for the original real deal Eppinger spoons made in US the right choice? Or should I go with the cheaper, buy made in china Apex spoon? Quote
NETim Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I have never used an Apex spoon. I assume they are stamped out of brass like the good ol’ Daredevles are. Steel spoons don’t have quite the right action IMHO. And they don’t cast as well (less sectional density). I ounce Daredevles can be cast about 5 miles with a slight tailwind. Get some of each and see what you and the pike like best. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 30, 2024 Super User Posted December 30, 2024 Jason Lucas in his book Lucas on Bass discusses a time period when Eppinger sales fell off dramatically, the red/white spoon the most popular color. It turns out Eppinger had to change paint suppliers, the paint wasn’t catching fish like the original. Eppinger studied the paint under Infra red light and the new suppliers paint looked very different. Eppinger changed back to the original paint supplier and sales returned quickly. Buy Eppinger spoons specially the 2/5 oz Imp for bass. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted December 30, 2024 Super User Posted December 30, 2024 I’ve still got a box full of Eppinger spoons I bought many years ago when I was doing fly-in trips. For pike, the 5 of diamonds was always my favorite, but the hooks on mine have all been replaced. 2 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted January 17 Super User Posted January 17 The Dardevle was one of my favorites. I caught a ton of fish on them when I was younger. Now all I fish are the ones from Nichols. No issues yet. Quote
