Super User WRB Posted December 29, 2024 Super User Posted December 29, 2024 Anyone have experience with the new Basara round reel? Looking for 6:1 ratio small round reel. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 29, 2024 Super User Posted December 29, 2024 No, but I am interested. I do like round reels for some reason and Daiwa reels. Maybe it’s because I learned in a round reels. I’ll be keeping an eye out on this one. My season won’t start for a few months Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 29, 2024 Super User Posted December 29, 2024 I saw this a few years ago and thought it would be a good swimabait reel. I am surprised to not find or hear much on it. It looks like a good reel. If I saw correctly it has Mag Sealed bearings, all Hyper Drive tech with brass gears and a big spool. Amazon has it for $255 for a 100 size RH. Looks like a bargain. 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Looks like a Ryoga without brakes meant for jigging. 5 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted December 29, 2024 Super User Posted December 29, 2024 Big Round reel fan. Gonna check em out 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 29, 2024 Super User Posted December 29, 2024 No brakes, no bueno. Quote
Bigbox99 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 It also has a synchronized level wind. It's possible it has the two arm centrifugal brake like the Catalina BJ but there is no mention of it on their site. I suspect it's not made for casting and has no brakes. Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 It's definitely a jigging reel. I think the shops put it in the baitcast category because it definitely doesn't look like other jigging reels. There's also the Ryoga BJ, which is set up in a similar manner. 1 Quote
newapti5 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 This series has always been jigging reels with basic mechanical brake, aka the tension knob. And it's not small either. A traditional Millionaire round reel would be smaller, like CV-Z, CV-X, and the upgraded version Bay Casting Special. They all have lower ratios models and Magforce brakes. With an extra small pinion pin part from old Alphas series, they (except 19 Millionaire CT) can utilize all those popular modern 34mm spools, like the one with the new Zillion. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 2 Author Super User Posted January 2 Thank everyone for their input, doesn’t sound like a reel I would want. Tom Quote
