westernangler Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I was flipping around and I saw Chuck Woolery selling fishing lures on QVC. So that's what he's been up to since his Love Connection days. Anyways, the lures are motorized..ha but they look pretty cool. Has anyone ever heard of them or actually used one? The idea looks innovative. I found his website, you guessed it. http://www.chuckwoolery.com I might buy one if anyone has some good feedback.
Lucky Craft Man Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Can you believe I actually have 6 of these (all gifts). Everytime I go through my stuff I always say I am going to give them a try, but I never have. For some reason, I can't bring myself to use them. I just can't imagine any serious bass fisherman tying one of these on. Could you see KVD winning the Classic and attributing his win to Chuck Woolery's Moto Frog?
llPa1nll Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Could you see KVD winning the Classic and attributing his win to Chuck Woolery's Moto Frog? LOL Good one...
westernangler Posted December 8, 2006 Author Posted December 8, 2006 Dang you have 6 of them? They're like $10 a piece. Someone spent some good money on them. There's some testimonials on his site, so someone's using them. I'll buy one off you for...$1 ;D I might buy one of this fishing rod car antennas though. That's pretty slick..
Super User FishTank Posted December 8, 2006 Super User Posted December 8, 2006 I saw a show with him as a guest on ESPN. No mention of any of his products but you could tell that this guy is obsessed with fishing. He had a totally different personality. He was nothing like the TV game show host I have been used to all these years. In fact I did not even know it was him until his name appeared on the screen. I don't think I would ever buy one of his lures but I have purchased a lot of other stuff that only caught trees and stumps.
volpster31 Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 i have a couple of these lures but i havent used them much....my friend has caught a few bass with the moto-minnow & you know what? they were all BIG...the frog is a bit cheesy but the minnow is sweet because it sits in one spot & the tail flaps the water...the only thing i question is the durability of them 1
Michael H Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 I was watching beat charlie moore and he was the challenger and they had to only fish his baits for the chalenge and they caught some fish. I still dont think they are worth trying tho.
Mattlures Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 I have a moto chug and it works. I dont use gimiks and I havent fallen for any other tv lures but I bought one cheap on ebay becuase I knew the aplication I would use it for. It worked just as i thought it would. I still think the braid is a weekness becuase it gives you a little slack when you set the hook but you just need to adjust your hookset with a wide swing. I use mine in smaller ponds after I have covered the are with my buzzbait or top water swimbait. It is a good follow up to missed bites. I also only use it at night.
justfishin Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Chuck Woolery, Charlie Moore, robot frogs ? What channel am I on ? Is this the Outer Limits ? Did I drink too much Alice White Shiraz last night? LOL. 1
Fisher of Men Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Haven't we seen these in Wal-mart about 15-20 years ago for about 5 bucks a piece. Back then, I thought that was kind of high for a lure. I, too, thought they looked kind of cheesy to catch fish. I have talked to a few people who bought them and said they caught fish. Hmmmm. I at least bookmarked his website in case I ever won't to step out on a limb. I just hope if I do, the limb doesn't break and I fall into the water.

Chris Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Haven't we seen these in Wal-mart about 15-20 years ago for about 5 bucks a piece. Yep same bait different person pushing it. Back then they had the shad body with the chugger mouth. The creator of that bait had it on a fishing show many years ago. He said to take the tail and bend one side of the fin down and the other side up. He said that when you do this the lure with either spin or create several rings on the water. He got the idea after seeing a shiner spinning around on top flopping around after a bass tried to smack it. He figured if he could make a lure that could act like an injured baitfish that it would be a great lure. It never had much of a following 15-20 years ago. I guess Chuck has reinvested in the company and trying to make a go at it. The lure looks cheesy but it isn't that bad of a lure. I never liked it because you had to really jerk the thing to get it to pull the string and when you had a strike you have a problem with loose line. I have never caught a bass on the lure and gave it to a fishing partner. He took it to the stick marsh and when I got it back most of the paint was gone.
Pa Angler Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Under B.A.S.S. rules those type of lures are not allowed as I understand the rules because they are self propelled. I to have received some as a gift as I was temped to sell on Ebay but I never used them and so I keep telling myself let me just try them but that never comes to pass. Charlie Morre did to a show with Chuck at Chuck's private pond and they did catch fish but in the real world I don't know. Chow
Infidel. Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Under B.A.S.S. rules those type of lures are not allowed as I understand the rules because they are self propelled. Well thank God I don't have to worry about that one because I have the minnow and under the right conditions, it has brought some nice fish to the top. Remember, the worst attribute a fisherman can have is a closed mind. Sure, a lot of baits out there are crap, but you need to try them out for yourself to be sure.
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 11, 2006 Super User Posted December 11, 2006 "you need to try them out yourself to be sure." Not me. I save some money and frustration by NOT buying lures! I am only interested in adding lures to my collection that are HIGHLY recommended by members of BassResource. com or people I know personally. I keep a list and may add a few baits this year, but this one will not be included.
westernangler Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 This post has turned out to be pretty funny. So let me see..most seasoned anglers have heard of them, or own one, but are too embarrassed to use one. LOL. Good thing I don't have to show off the lure in the picture with the Bass. I might slip this one on the xmas list just for fun. Most people who have used it are havin success. I'll let you know if I find one in my stocking
Lucky Craft Man Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I was just thinking, what if you happened to catch the World Record Largemouth Bass on a Chuck Woolery lure? I don't know if I could tell anyone. Imagine your picture on the cover of Bassmasters holding up a MotoChug. Then you would be featured on Bass Insider on Saturday Morning being interviewed by Mark Zona. I could see it now: Mark Zona: "So tell us about that day." Me: "Well Zona, there was a crisp in the air as I tied on my Chuck Woolery MotoChug in Golden Tiger. I pulled the string and casted it out as far as I could over a submerged weedbed. As the MotoChug flopped around on it's own, there was an explosion in the water. I reared back an extra 2 feet to account for the activation string to be pulled out and then set the hook. As the Bass swam towards the boat, I couldn't reel in fast enough to keep up with the charging fish and I could feel the MotoChug automatically wiggling around in the Bass's mouth. I thought I was going to loose him, but thanks to the extra dull, no name brand hooks, the lure remained in his mouth. I finally got him close enough to lip and the rest is history." Mark Zona: "Well, that's an amazing story." Me: "It was Mark and I am glad to be among the 1,000,000 anglers who purchased the world's first motorized lure." Mark Zona: "Wait, this just in...your catch has been disqualified as a World Record, because automated lures are illegal to use under the IFGA. I knew this was a stupid story to do! Get this clown out of here! Chuck Woolery Lures!!! Where is my agent?!!" After thinking about it, I don't think I am going to use my Moto-lures, because I don't need the embarressment.
The_Bass_Whisperer Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 "Well thank God I don't have to worry about that one because I have the minnow and under the right conditions, it has brought some nice fish to the top." What colour schemes work best????????????
