newapti5 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 To be honest, as a Daiwa fanboy, currently I am oddly more curious about the new Antares that is supposed to be debuted in January. Quote

Same. I have the 2019 and it's been a work horse. Smooth and solid since the day I got it. 2 Quote
woolleyfooley Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Ah crap. Found the specs here: https://japantackle.com/casting-reels/reg0000356.html 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 They do this when they are about to kill off a Steez. These new ones are kinda low effort IMO. When they 1st did this they gave the reel special frame porting, a reflective green paint finish and special dimpled SV spool that was super light weight. I'm thinking they are going to come out with a new CT with the hyper non adjustable knob from the 24 Steez. Hopefully with a new even more compact Steez CT frame too. Quote
ABU is overpriced Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Look good, but i would at least expect a carbon handle on a so called limited edition. This is easily one of the better frames made to date, tho. Looking at the Lews Elite Ti, it would've been nice if they coated this Steez CT with titanium. That would be much more "limited edition". woolleyfooley Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 To me it looks like a steez ct sv tw with a more bfs oriented spool. Am I missing something? How long ago did the steez ct sv tw come out? Doesn’t feel that old to me. Quote

I would say around 1/4oz. I have tried heavier stuff and this is not the reel for it. The Steez A2 and Steez SV TW I have are better suited for this style of fishing. I also have the Steez SV TW Limited Shallow Spool Edition and this reel is something special. I have been using it for heavy jigs with 50lb braid and it has been amazing for it. I am not sure what Daiwa did to make it a limited edition but it is a jig fishing beast. It feels more solid and casts effortlessly. I thought the same about it being a more BFS oriented reel but from what I have heard, this reel can go down to 3.5 grams and up to around 12 grams. Ideal line is 6-8lb FC. Quote

It even shares the same drag and compatible gear sets as those reels. Quote

I flip and pitch on my steez ct a 1 ounce weight with 50lb silent braid on an expride 73xh. It’s absolutely awesome. I always wonder why people say this reel can’t throw bigger stuff. What is the reason that’s been found through doing so? 1 Quote

I bent the handle and the main shaft on a fish in cover using a 3/4oz jig on a NRX+ 894c. It's sort of my fault. I have parts on the way. Plus the screws on the inside frame are stripped from Daiwa and they also have blue Loctite on a few other screws that will need to be replaced. I do have it worked out with them but it is not made for that type of fishing. I also hinted at this in a few posts but I have been waiting for parts as they are back ordered from Japan. 1 Quote

This was on a steez ct sv? If so, was the drag completely locked ? Straight braid, locked drag and a giant hookset under a mat of grass? Just trying to make sense of it. Quote

I bought the 894C and was waiting on the Steez SV Limited Shallow Spool to come in so I stuck the CT on it until my new reel came in. I was fishing a tournament and hooked into a nice 4lb keeper that was stuck in a laydown about 15+ feet deep. I was using 12lb or 14lb fluorocarbon. I never lock the drag down but I put my thumb on spool and tried to winch it out. I got it in without breaking the line but the reel took a hit. Here is the jig. I just straightened the hook (it wasn't bent too bad) and repainted the head. Notice there is no weed guard. Lesson learned. 1 Quote
ABU is overpriced Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 People used to flip with a Pixy. No way a Steez CT wouldn't be able to handle it. 1 Quote

Agreed, at least with my experience I am shocked a main shaft would bend under 12-14 lb fluorocarbon prior to the like breaking. I could see doing what I do with 50lb braid but at the same time, in my experience the steez ct has just a little bit less drag than most and typically the drag would slip before something bent. That’s odd. On 12/27/2024 at 5:44 PM, ABU is overpriced said: Look good, but i would at least expect a carbon handle on a so called limited edition. Current steez ct sv is the best frame in my opinion. Id absolutely love just a tiny bit more line capacity. This reel has become my go to for all skipping, flipping & pitching and any target casting. I only swap to something bigger for forging, punching, bug swimbaits, or long distancing casting. Quote

I think the first Steez CT 700 was 2019 then they released the Steez CT 70 that had the hyperdrive gearing like the Zillion in 2021. 700 has the colored side to match the gear speed like purple is 8.1:1 while the 70 doesn't have that. 10 hours ago, Bandersnatch said: I wonder if this frame will take a standard ct sv spool? Not much, except that it's very likely to be re-designed next year. Given Shimano's habit of using Antares as a showcase platform for their newest technologies and designs, it piques my interest greatly. All should be revealed by Jan 10. Quote

Maybe I have owned too many $9 carbon handles but I now associate a quality forged alloy handle or machined handle with high end. Daiwa used to sell the RCS carbon handles for a pretty penny back when carbon handles were rare and exotic. Now that they are on every cheap aliexpress/amazon reel and having owned a few of them it seems like it takes more effort to make a great looking quality unpainted alloy handle than it does to make a carbon fiber handle. The difference in the appearance and quality between the alloy handles on high end reels and the alloy handles on $40 reels is more than the difference between the RCS carbon handle and the carbon handle on a $40 aliexpress reel I have found. 1 Quote
