primetime Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Been cleaning out old tackle and found a box which has a bunch of really old Z-man Chatterbaits which ended up at a Liquidator here in Florida 10-15 years ago. I remember they would come in before they were all that popular and often in models that were all over ebay and overstock sites for 1.99...One has a rattle hanging on it, funky hook design with a mister twister keeper worm hook style pin, stamped z-man original, and one has a Mono Weed guard, super shiny and also OG Z-Man stamp and flat head design....One has a red blade etc. A bunch are 1 ounce models that came with rainbow trout colored swimbaits like 5" long and segmented. I remember catching a few fish on the bigger ones after taking off the swimbait and adding a skirt, but the snaps used to break really easy so I just chucked them in a box and forgot about them.. However, I am curious about the Booyah & Strike King versions? Don't think I ever used them and they kind of look like the new ones... one has an oval line tie instead of a snap which is interesting. I believe they were only out for a year and then discontinued for patent reasons. Says Strike Kind Pure Poison, booyah Just says Booyah. Anyone ever have success on these baits? Thinking about fixing the snaps and giving them a go, just not sure if they used to break off the head or anything. The SK models and booyah look good, not sure who makes a few of the others, most are stamped. Anyone remember these models and would you throw them or not worth the risk? Thanks. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 26, 2024 Super User Posted December 26, 2024 Original Z-Man chatterbaits were my mainstay until I started switching to Siebert's Fogy and Fogy Pro. They're a decent chatter, and I caught many a fish on them. 1 Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted December 26, 2024 Super User Posted December 26, 2024 I have pure poison just never used it much no particular reason. Other than PB crappie my overall luck with any chatterbait bass wise is abysmal. Quote

Im guessing this is why anytime i write that brands name i have to wait for a moderator to approve it.. But for the OP, for those being that old i would hang them on the wall. Once they are lost you will have a hard time replacing them, new ones are made every day. If you want new ones the Fogy and Tremor from Siebert and phenomenal, or if youre rich the J Hammer or Elite Evo are also really amazing. Personally i give my money to Siebert because #1 i like supporting smaller business. And #2 i can get 2 for the price of Z mans 1. Quality is equal too. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 27, 2024 Super User Posted December 27, 2024 Somewhere in my basement I have a bunch of chatterbaits like the brown one in the upper left corner. Bought them at Sportsmans Liquidators years ago for $0.50 each just to get the blades. Now that you can buy chatterbait blades again they are just part of the stuff I need to get rid of. Allen Quote
Pat Brown Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Find a pond with big bass and throw em til you lose em in a snag or a big basses mouth! I like having my 'nice' lures and I like having some random cheap stuff around in case I am fishing from the bank in an unfamiliar place and don't wanna sacrifice one of my premium products to fishing line balls and ropes and errant stumps. I like the reckless abandon I find myself fishing cheaper lures with enough to keep a few around at all times. 1 Quote

I kind of like the bigger ones that I believe are 3/4 or 1oz. My main concern is the lures breaking due to age but then again I have old Stanley Living Rubber Jigs & spinnerbaits etc that work just fine...Good search baits and maybe start working on fishing chatterbaits near the bottom which I tend to avoid due to lack of confidence in deeper water. 1 Quote
