Super User clayton86 Posted December 25, 2024 Super User Posted December 25, 2024 Another complete scrooges when it comes to Christmas or the holidays? this is the best part of Christmas….its over. not a fan of Christmas I personally hate it haven’t been a fan of it most my life. Yeah as a little kid I’m sure I liked it getting gifts and I always got double having parents that are separated I got two Christmas’s one with mom one with dad. I try to enjoy it now for my daughters sake my boys are older they know the deal and don’t ask for or expect much oldest will be up this weekend and he wants to go hunting so we’ll do that. I’ve spent most the day on the couch just with eyes closed didn’t nap just laid there trying with all the background noise of how each kid got x amount spent on them and blah blah blah. If there was an option to work today I would have jumped all over it and told daughter and fiancé it was “mandatory”. 2 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted December 26, 2024 Super User Posted December 26, 2024 Not exactly a Scrooge, but we don’t have kids or grandchildren to host so Christmas for my wife and I is just another day. We are both retired, it’s not like we get the day off work. We don’t even put up a tree. 1 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Bah humbug Ebinezer. You need a visit from the ghosts of Christmas past , present , and future. Thence you can give Bob a raise so he can buy tiny Tim a turkey and be merry ! 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 26, 2024 Super User Posted December 26, 2024 I used to hate Christmas. Turns out, it was who I was with for the holiday and why we were doing what we were doing. Now, we enjoy the day at home with the kids, eat good food, listen to good music, and anyone that wants to come by and join in is welcome. 3 Quote
Tackleholic Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I've spent every Xmas and other holiday alone for many years; no relatives within about 700 miles. It's stress free and without obligations. Yesterday, Xmas day, my Border Collie and I went fishing; being able to do that whenever I choose provides more pleasure than any gift or being in the company of others could provide. My parents called me a "Loner" until they passed away; yes, Mom did add the word "Scrooge" around Xmas time. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted December 26, 2024 Super User Posted December 26, 2024 Not a fan because of what it has become. People skip right over Thanksgiving and move to Christmas after Halloween. My wife puts up FOUR Christmas trees and all kinds of holiday decorations the second week of November, adding insult to injury. One of the classic rock radio stations I frequently listen to switches to holiday music in mid-November. I don't like trying to figure out gifts for people because they never give me any ideas and I don't know what they want. It just eats up my valuable time and energy. There is one item I do enjoy though, and its the home cooked prime rib roast. Let's just say I'm glad is Dec 26 now. T-minus 364 days... 2 Quote

This is the worst part. Even more horrible when they play the same song every hour sang by a different person. 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 26, 2024 Global Moderator Posted December 26, 2024 Fellow Scrooge here, can’t stand it. Was an epic fail again this year just like every year. But it’s over !!!!! I have nothing against anyone who enjoys it I’ve never gotten the correct gifts for women and it always ends in a nightmare of emotion I was taught to be grateful for any gifts, apparently that’s not a thing haha i already dread Christmas 2025 5 Quote

I really like the original idea and intention of Christmas, however as it exists in modern day society is pretty insidious. Everybody is running around with their hair on fire, everybody is stressed out about gift buying, it's a hectic time for many people. This is not even talking about all the people who are lonely, have lost a loved one, or are depressed for whom Christmas throws jet fuel on their negative emotions. It's hard on people who aren't having a good time in life seeing everybody else around them full of joy and happiness, whether that's the reality or not. 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 27, 2024 Global Moderator Posted December 27, 2024 @AlabamaSpothunter, the struggle is real on all fronts, should be happy 1 Quote

This reminds me of a woman I was in a relationship with a long time ago. Before Xmas she would print out a stack of letters, all the same. Each person she received a gift from would receive one of those letters from her. "Please send me the receipt from the purchase of your gift so that I may return it for a refund or exchange it for something I may want". I'm serious, she really did that. 1 Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted December 27, 2024 Super User Posted December 27, 2024 I'm not going to say I love it. I like it a lot. I am in my second half of my life and I aint wasting it on being negative. one thing I learned is that other people pick up on it quickly and you trend towards a thing I call "friendless". I love picking up my phone and wishing people I havent talked to all year well wishes. I sure as heck aint ruining anyones else's holiday by being a.....forgot how to use English. I have no kids, so I cant glam onto their holiday spirit. it is the easiest 2 weeks of the work year for sure and that isn't hard to love. Monday I am taking out my entire team for breakfast to celebrate them and a year of kicking butty building bridges for the traveling public. I put a few hundred aside to do this annually. making them happy, definitely ricochets back at me some happiness as well. my inner-scrooge can suck it. this year! wife and I promised not to gift to each other. she broke her promise and bought me a fishing rod!! left me looking like a doofus, gift-less. we both laughed at it. I jumped on the bathroom scale, and found out that I have dropped. below 190lbs in my health efforts. she looked at me and said, "and that is the best Christmas present ever...your health!" and that is how you do it gentlemen!! live well. 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 27, 2024 Global Moderator Posted December 27, 2024 @Darth-Baiter, that sounds nice but I would be asleep in a pine box had I not bought a gift . I choose to live until at least 2025 . “Live well” would not involve skipping the gift 1 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I’ve fallen for the no gift trick. Only once though. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 27, 2024 Super User Posted December 27, 2024 That's DEFINITELY a trap! 2 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted December 27, 2024 Super User Posted December 27, 2024 In my opinion - celebrating Christmas for 2 months is the problem. You walk into a store on Nov 1 and it’s already decorated and Christmas Carol music overhead. And here we are about the same still on Jan 1. If I had any say, I’d make Christmas a 3 day weekend and Easter the 2 month deal. It means more - plus think of the long Spring Break (fishing) trips!! 3 Quote

throttleplate Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 back in the 60,s i used to leave big hints on what i wanted, such as taking the sears toy catalog and leaving it on my bed next to me when sleeping with it open to the page with the toy i wanted circled. My dad back then made $60.00 a week working full time and looking back at my age now i feel like such a fool wasting his money on stupid plastic junk. BAH HUMBUG 1 Quote
