bugman Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I started using Baitcasters about two years ago. At that time I picked up a St Croix Premier 7' M/fast. Over the next two years I have bought other baitcasters from 6' M/fast to a 7.5' H flipping stick. I find that the 7' M/fast just sits there collecting dust. Am I mssing out on not using this rod? What would this rod be best suited for? Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Depends how much back bone the M action packs. Is stiff enough, it would be a good finessee jig and Tx rig rod. If not, it could be a great spinnerbait or rattle trap rod. If none of that works it could be a great ebay rod. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Don't just let it sit there "you need to feed and care for a graphite rod by flexing it". I have 3 of those blanks hanging on my shop wall waiting to be built.. IMPO With the right reel, why not small plastics like 7" worms, or tubes, small spinnerbaits (in-lines, etc.), buzzbaits, jerk baits, make it an open water rod. No cranks. I personally would keep trying different light baits with a Curado 101D strapped to it, I'd find something the rod is good for. Quote
huskertko Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I have this exact rod and I use it for light weight plastics, weightless plastics, but I also use it for spinnerbaits, small crankbaits and rattle traps. It was my all around rod and I say was, because I bought a Loomis this winter for jigs and t-rigs, I am buying a dedicated crankbait rod in a couple of weeks, so this rod will become my primary spinnerbait rod. bugman Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 Thanks for all of the replys. ReelMech I like your idea of using it for an open water rod. I think the main reason I let it sit was because I found out that I like to cast shorter rods. When I do want a longer rod for flipping/pitching/slop fishing it did not have enough bachbone. I will give it another try when I want to make long casts on large flats or hump fishing. Thanks again Gary (bugman) Quote
