zpalffy Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I got an eagle eye 9 fish finder for christmas. I an concerned about bow mounting the forward facing sonar transducer on the trolling motor. I am concerned about the vibration from the motor and constantly lowering and raising the trolling motor. I have the option to mount it on the stern also. However I do not want to compromise the functionality of the forward facing sonar. I want to be able to see in front of the boat not under it. Can I still stern mount it and see in front of the boat. Any suggestions ? Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted December 23, 2024 Super User Posted December 23, 2024 If the goal is to maximize the life of the transducer then leave it in the box in a closet and try to keep the temperature around 70 degrees. If the goal is to catch fish then mount it to the trolling motor. 1 3 Quote
Junger Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Mount it to your TM, they’re made to be used that way. But if you’re OCD enough that it would bother you, then there are a lot of after market live scope/transducer poles. 1 Quote

A lot of anglers here in the north use poles instead of attaching it to their bow mount. The primary reason is portability. It can be used during the winter for ice fishing. 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 The bigger decision of where to mount the FFS ducer is your fishing style. Keep in mind that you will want to be scanning the water by moving the transducer left to right and so on, to see fish. So if the ducer is on the stern, you will want it on a pole and then be able to reach it to hand move it. My initial statement was my biggest issue when deciding this. I'm more of an offshore guy; as opposed to beating the bank. So I use Spotlock a lot. I ended up mounting my FFS ducer on a separate pole so I can use Spotlock and then be able to scan with the FFS by hand. Maybe a little clunky but I couldn't see having it on my TM shaft with the way I mostly fish. Stuff to think about. 1 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I don't have that model, but I have my Livescope transducer mounted to my trolling motor shaft. I mounted it up there as a quick mount while researching the other options. What I found was I don't often use FFS while spotlocked as I typically Bass fish shorelines. When I AM using FFS, I am typically scanning while moving around in deeper water. I could see having a separate mount if I wasbholding in a spot while jigging for walleyes or fishing for schools of crappies. Met Brent Ehler at the American Legacy open house a while ago and had the chance to chat with him about how he uses his and he does the same. He said he likes his on the TM shaft so he can swipe back and forth and not keep the beam on them any more than needed. He said he has seen instances where the holding the beam on them seems to spook them at times causing them to move away. 1 Quote
