Super User Raul Posted February 6, 2007 Super User Posted February 6, 2007 Palomar Trying to make braided line slide like monofilamentous lines when connecting leaders to main line or when tying sliding knots like the clinch knot can be a very tricky ordeal. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Palomar 100%, are there any other knots??? Quote

Super User Alpster Posted February 6, 2007 Super User Posted February 6, 2007 Palomar knot is best for braid. To attach a leader to braid I use a double nail knot. JMHO Ronnie Quote

JMHORonnie Alpster----That is the main problem that I am having. Palomar knot is not working with my braided line. I have already lost three jigs with this knot and it is not the line that is breaking. I have 30lb Power Pro on my reel and you can tell at the end of the line that the knot failed. Quote

TBP, I mostly use 50lb power pro and I don't ever remember the palomar knot failing. I have many times straightened a Gammie hook when snagged on thick cover. Make sure you don't cut the tag end too short. Power pro is very slippery, leave an 1/8 inch of tag. Also, with lighter line, try passing the line through twice (double wrapping) the line when you tie the knot. I hope this helps. Ronnie Quote
jacktrevally Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Palomar will indeed SLIP with some kind of braid especially if the line is new! If you succeed not making it slipping then it is a strong knot. There are many complicated knots which are very reliable for Braid but the easiest to use is the 6 turn grinner knot. Or I use a 6 turn normal blood knot but instead you do 4 turn and tuck it, you do 5 turns up the line and 8 turns on the line again in the downward direction and tuck it! Quote

I will try double wrapping the line to see it that works. I have to admit though, even with it being 30lb test line I sure can cast it like the 12lb Yo-Zuri. Quote
