My 90-year-old father is going in for spine surgery on his neck to relieve constricted nerves.  That's a pretty tricky surgery for somebody his age.  He could end up paralyzed.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He could use all the help he can get.

Thanks!

Glenn

Done. Wishing your dad the best. It's scary at any age.

Pulling for him man

The surgery was successful in that they were able to relieve the pressure on his nerves. There were no complications. Whether he makes a full recovery is unknown. Nerves take a long time to heal.

My father is resting now.  He'll spend about a week in the hospital, and then transferred to an adult care facility for 3 months of rehab and physical therapy.

The dangerous part is over.  Thank you so much for your healing thoughts and prayers!

Well, he's still in the hospital and they don't know when he'll be out.  He needs to be able to perform a certain level of motor skills, and he doesn't like physical therapy.  Combine that with his age and....it's a struggle.  He'll then be placed in a rehab center for a minimum of 3 months.

Add to that, my sister's husband just got home after spending 17 days in the same hospital for his throat cancer surgery.  She's taking care of him full time for the next 6 weeks, when they can remove his feeding tube.

My mother passed away 2 years ago.  She was the family glue.

So combine all that, and you can understand why we skipped Christmas.  It just felt like we would be trying to force it to happen.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer, so here's hoping to better times when we can celebrate healing!

I certainly understand your feelings. But on the positive side, you sisters' husband is home, and your father is still with you. In many ways, you are blessed.
