Over the last twenty five years plus I found  looking at baits or rigging options and saying to myself,  I know exactly where that will flat catch them.

The first time I laid my hands on a MB Dark Sleeper it was like an epiphany and I knew exactly when and where it would shine.  My assumption was spot on and the what, where and when came together resulting a great day.  Same goes for the wobble head and the free rig.  They just felt right and didn’t fail me.  I have the same feeling about the line through Swimbait Head from 6th Sense. It will have to wait but it speaks to me.

Have any of you had a similar reaction to a bait or rig that grabbed your attention and wallet.

I tend to "just know" exactly where, when, and how a bait with shine. Sometimes I'm right, a lot of the time I'm wrong, but I always "just know." Fish with confidence.

*will shine

It won't let me edit to correct the autocorrect.

Ah, 'The magic lure' with a bit of a twist.

Yes, when it came to a different presentation (drop-shot, wacky rig), I knew when I first laid eyes on them where they'd shine.  With baits, not so much. There have been a few that lived up to the hype, Mann's +20 crank was one. That doesn't mean I won't stop purchasing ones that catch my eye.  What can I say, I'm a tackle junkie. I can't wait for the next years new line of baits to be introduced.  :happy-cheerleader-130:

Rage Menace grub. When I first saw it I got a gut feeling it would work.well. It's been a good producer for me.

I am about 25 / 75 at this point.

And the 75 is the crash & burn percentage.  #glidebaits

But the few times I do get it right,

especially recently, it's been pretty Epic.

So I tell myself "it's worth trying"

I have learned that I am willing to give whatever it is at at least a couple of seasons before I bail on it completely.

A few times I've had success with deals in places and in a manner not original thought of.  I hate the term "think outside the box" but it certainly applies in those few cases.

Winners include the A-Rig, vibrating jigs and a few jerkbaits.

Either way, despite selling some of it off, I still have a decent level of deals labeled "Pending" which could mean anything is possible.

I have 2 that come to mind. It was a hair jig that was more like a regular jig, heavier bigger with added rabbit zonker strips or hackle for a trailer. The other was a floating glide bait! Both of these lures are confidence baits for me now.  I make 1/4 ounce hair jigs that are big and bulky.  The DS customs floating glide is absolutely perfect for fishing over shallow weeds where other glides will sink and get hung up!

I have 2 but not a particular bait.

At one time I couldn’t catch a fish on a spinnerbait to save my life.
I would get hit but the vast majority were never hooked well enough or I would feel them run into it and never hook up.
Until the vision of a trailer hook popped in my head and stayed there.

I consider myself a pretty good sight angler especially on beds.
But it took years to gain enough experience to consider it a strength.
Instead of just dropping my bait in to elicit a reaction strike, I started to formulate a plan of changing angles and entry points.

I felt there should have been obvious adjustments but it just didn’t occur to me until that light came on.

My problem is I can't tell the difference between that voice in my head and the Bait Monkey whispering in my ear.

Creme Scoundrel started it but that has grown into plastics of various sizes & shapes.

Give me a piece of plastic, a 3/0 straight shank hook, a 3/16 oz weight & I will be happy, happy, happy!

Whopper Plopper sucked me in big time.  And it sucked me in for 3, not just one.  Because there was a buy 2, get one free.  Chris Lane on Toledo Bend with the win was the primary marketing ploy.

They are nothing but glorified Christmas tree ornaments.

But at least now I've learned my lesson.  Never buy more than one of a lure.  That way, if its a failure, you're only stuck with one.  Not three.

The first time I saw a TRD my first thought was “ that’s stupid “ . I was right.

I would also have to say that I just knew a plastic worm would catch fish. And secondly, the first time I saw a Gene Larew 4" Salt Craw I had no doubt it would produce.

Like CATT I use other types of plastics from time to time, but a worm or Salt Craw on a Texas rig is still one of my confidence baits.

For me, a lot of times, it's the other way around.  I have spots and situations where I'm still looking for the perfect bait.

Wait really? Whopper ploppers aren’t considered good baits?

I’m very confused. If anyone doesn’t want theirs I’ll gladly take them.

I should be more specific.  They are quality lures.  Well made and durable.

However, they are mostly a gimmick when it comes to catching fish.  (I stress mostly)

There are a lot of members here that would agree with me too, and they've voiced their opinions many times on this lure.
