Super User LrgmouthShad Posted December 18, 2024 Super User Posted December 18, 2024 So anyways it’s story time. Yesterday I was working outside and I left my open can of Red Bull unattended. I come back to take a swig. Little did I know, a winged surprise was waiting for me in that swig. About the time I am preparing to swallow, I feel something in my drink. Wait, that’s a bug! Sharp pain penetrates the side of my mouth - on the inside. At this point I realize my current situation in life, so I spit out the bee and begin a battle damage assessment. Before I could finish that, I notice five more airborne invaders swarming me to take revenge on behalf of their fallen buddy. I shout and run and swat at the air while people watching laugh at me. My lip is still swollen up pretty good. Red Bull gives you wings 7 1 6 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 18, 2024 Super User Posted December 18, 2024 I too had the exact same thing happen to me as a little boy and I was at a Birthday party, and several Bees were inside a Coke can I took a drink out of. Was stung multiple times inside the mouth. Pretty sure I wigged out and cried. 2 Quote

VolFan Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 We actually had a kindergarten teacher die from this. She was allergic and the bee stung her in the back of the throat. 6 Quote
throttleplate Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Living in the phillipines sleeping in a grass nipa hut on a bamboo floor i put a loaf of bread next to me where i slept so if i get hungry i can just grab a slice not needing light to find the bread. Well i woke up pitch black in the room and opened up the bread and grabbed a slice, as i chewed the bread my mouth started to feel like when you put your tongue on a 9 volt battery to test it. I jumped for the light switch to find my bread was covered over by red fire ants, i had allready swallowed most of it. Nothing happened to me, didnt get sick and my mouth was fine but i lost my loaf of bread. 2 4 Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 20, 2024 Super User Posted December 20, 2024 My grandfather told me a true story. In 1911 he ran a mule team pulling a load of railroad ties. He was out in the middle no where in Manitoba and it was dark. Pitch black. He wanted a drink and found a guy who had some home made hooch and bought two pint bottles. He found his way to his bedding at the stable and took several swigs and felt something in his mouth. He deduced it was particles of cork from the cork in the bottle top. In the morning he discovered it was dead flies. 1 1 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted December 20, 2024 Super User Posted December 20, 2024 Just watch out for them ground wasps, AKA the yellow jackets. They d**n near killed me back in August. 3 Quote
Super User gim Posted December 20, 2024 Super User Posted December 20, 2024 I've wondered this many times because I often see a wasp crawl inside an open beverage at picnics or gatherings outside in the summer. Apparently it does happen to at least one person. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 20, 2024 Global Moderator Posted December 20, 2024 I used to wash golf carts back when I was 17, there was ALWAYS a yellow jacket in every empty beer or Coke can. 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted December 20, 2024 Super User Posted December 20, 2024 One of my dad's best friends growing up had this happen to him and he died within minutes. Was painting a house in the summer, got down off the ladder and took a swig of soda. Didn't know he had a bee sting allergy. Two things, my dad said to always blow into the opening of the can and take a good look before drinking if it's been left unattended for any period of time. And second, if you have any allergies, have an EPIPEN handy... Or, if it’s a beer - be sure to guzzle it upon opening. Just to be certain of course 😁 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 21, 2024 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2024 I’m allergic to bees but it seems to be getting better as I age. I weedeated up a nest of yellow jackets in the ground last summer and got 16-20 stings , only one of my hands got really big and numbish, weird thing was they didn’t sting me on the hand. When I was 8 I got into a hornets nest and got stung several times and then went way into the backcountry wade fishing . The reaction didn’t hit until we were in the middle of nowhere and my cousin had to carry me out the last bit and drive me to the hospital where I fainted 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 23, 2024 Super User Posted December 23, 2024 Funny, but not funny. As some said, it could have been dangerous. A cousin living 2 miles up the road from my parents got a bee sting. By the time he got to our place his eyes were almost completely closed. Good thing we didn't live a mile further down the road. An allergy isn't something you necessarily have your whole life, so be careful. I was 22 before I got hit with them. 1 Quote
