Guest the_muddy_man Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 OH OH a slight defectiion by the Mud Man; I have made the commitment to go to Bait casting and now i have A quantum 500 reel i got from Pond Hopper on the way( He got it from Reel Mech) , and A cabelas and a BPS Pro Qualifier to get it together i got them all on the forum (except the Cavelas Prodigy) for real reasonable money So I have to get honest and now I am also in the WHAT EVER I CAN AFFORD CREW As time goes on I want to Get A Pflueger Summit and a president at least the BPS Pro Qualifier is made by Pflueger. I am commited to learning how to Baitcast and cant wait till i can afford that Summit. Quote
scbassin Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Muddy_Man does this mean you have a posse too? I am sure you will have that baitcasting equipment down pat in no time. keep your spool setting tight until you get use to the feel of the rig then loosen it up a little at a time. Quote
castaway Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Congratulations on your new gear.I also fit into the calico reel collectors club. ;D Unless the Cabelas Prodigy reel has changed, it should be the same as the Pinnacle tetra. The Tetra I have , is an outstanding reel for the money except, I have too many other reels I like to use instead. When you get around to collecting the Pfluegers, I have a president and a Trion that I don't really have room in the boat for any more. The President is really a great reel, I haven't got used to the gear ratios being as fast of a line retreive as they are.I prefer 26" line retreive , or less, but I am not always correct. ;DIvan Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Yea SC I made that mistake already, a little too brash and over confident. I was practicing with my first rig, a 6'6" Med action BPS Extreme rod I got from Risk kid and a cableas Prodigy reel with the tandem brake system. I had already caught my first fish and was starting to get some disstance, but my release point is still an issue. This affects my accuracy However i tought this is going good and i took the brake way off, my fishing partner Ron no sooner said "This can't be good!" 70 yards of hoplessly Nested Lines That was a good lesson A LITTLE AT A TIME! scbassin Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Only 1 boy you are doing great. I have been using a baitcaster since 1974 & still get them. Quote

ksdog Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 In '06 I taught myself how to use a baitcaster. Lord knows I didn't want anybody watching me. After experimenting with several reels, I found that the reels with magnetic brakes were definitely more forgiving. Now, I can hardly pick up my spinning gear, don't like it. Guys told me that, I didn't believe them at first. Quote

JT Bagwell Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 not made by pflueger. stop spreading those nasty rumors I know for a fact that as recently as last season, a lot of the BPS reels were manufactured by Shakespeare (Pflueger). Since a lot of the designs have not changed much, I would assume they are still produced the same this season. The reason I know this is because I do a lot of promotional work with some of Shakespeare's product lines. A senior employee at the company told me about the deal with BPS. JT Bagwell Quote

Super User Dan: Posted February 6, 2007 Super User Posted February 6, 2007 muddy, why couldn't you get a Pflueger baitcaster?? That way you wouldn't be a defector. Has anyone tried any Pflueger Baitcasters? I am terrified of baitcasting, but I realize I should probably learn and I love my Medalist so I wanna stay loyal to Pflueger. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 6, 2007 Super User Posted February 6, 2007 i own a president and a trion narrow spool lp.they are great reels.i had 3 trion rounds that i sold because i'm converting to all lp reels.they were good reels also.one was 6 seasons old with no problems at all. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Money is tight and I got some real good deals on LH retrieve reels on our Flea Market So itll take me a year or so to save up for the 2 pfluegers I want, no big deal. I am grateful God has provided me with the resoures I have man Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 6, 2007 Super User Posted February 6, 2007 Fishing equipment has to be one of the most competitive markets in the world. Although I am a cerified member of the 'Shimano Posse' I can tell you that Pflueger, Diawa, ABU Garcia, Quantum, and others are working their butts off to get your $. If you stick to the quailty, proven, name brands, you will rarely get a piece of junk, no matter what your price range. It's all about the $. God bless a free market and word of mouth advertising.
