I was at the local bait shops spring expo and swap last spring and a guy had a box of old Curado  B's and E's he was selling. He had three 201 E7's he was selling for $75 a piece.

I had never used a Curado E so I bought one. I put it on a Megabass Levante Diablo Spec for spinnerbaits and I really like it! Good reels. I see why everyone likes them. I wish I would have bought more. That being said, I wouldn't pay $150 - $200 for them though. Though I DID see the 51e someone mentioned above. Thought about it, but wasn't bidding on it when already at $179.

At that price you should have bought all three!  :)

Years ago I got my first Curado 51E used for $125.  Later I got a new one on closeout for $98 TMD.

Thanks fellas. Just got a 201e7 that’s looks to be in better shape than most of the higher priced ones I saw. All said and done I got it for $125 which I am content with. This will be my first bait caster. Can’t wait to throw in on my dobyns and get after some bass come spring

Agreed. Hindsight being 20/20, I definitely should have, but having not used them before I had decided to just get one.

I was searching 200. I’ll start looking for the 201. Appreciate that info!

If you run across a Citica 201E it's the same reel with fewer bearings. I have one and love it-and I'm a Daiwa guy.

Any recommended braid for this reel? I’ll be fishing top water in a weed bed scattered with lillies. I was thinking 50lb power pro based on some other stuff I read.

Awesome thanks ! Also will be switching up and using the magnum speed worm. Got one bass on it in late fall here in PA. Thinks it’s going to be a game changer for me this spring

Send them my way at your convenience and I’ll fix em up

I’ve been meaning to reach out to you soon. I think the E series is still my fav from Shimano. I need to get in my garage & send you a bunch of reels. I got the 2 curado 200 E7s (one is messed up) and I got 2 curado 50Es I need to send along with a curado 200 G7 (not my fav & has never casted well) and also 2 citica 200s. Think I have 2 curado Is that need a good cleaning as well.

I got a bunch of older Shimanos that could use some TLC. 🤣 Just gotta locate em all & box em up. Been using newer Daiwa Tat CTs as of late.

Magnum Speed Worms are my # 1 always throw, no matter where bait!

I got a 9 today with one at a tournament and lost another almost as big as my boater couldn’t land her with the net!!

(I almost threw him overboard but it was his boat 😁)

Make a note to yourself and post when you first get out this spring with your waters depth, clarity, cover, structure and weather forecast.
As it all matters.

I’ll help you out with a few tips if you want.

I personally think $125 was an appropriate price for an older reel of that quality.  50# braid should be good.  I went 60# after reading several suggestions for using 60#-80# braid for frogging.  For me I think 60# is a bit too heavy.  I can't imagine needing 80# braid.

Yeah I’ve read guys going heavier than 50 as well. I also saw where 50 was good for getting some casting distance. I will be wading and have always fished this lake with 6’6” medium heavy and spinning reel. I am hoping this new setup gets me out further especially in spots where I think I’ll finally be able to land at the edge of the pads where the creek channel is.

If you bought casting tackle in hopes or raw distance over spinning tackle you might be disappointed.

Before the curado 200k DC there was the Curado (Scorpion) 200e DC.

There is also the Scorpion 1500/1501, which is the JDM 200e7.

Came back to this thread just now because a guy I messaged shortly after making this post just got back to me. He ended up already selling his curado 201 but said he has the same reel but it just has some minor differences. It’s the scorpion 1501-7. I am curious why the curado has more demand. The scorpion 1501 with left handed reels and sells for about the same price. I am curious why it seems like there is less demand for them. My curado comes in the mail tomorrow ! If it goes well and I want another one for a different rod it seems like a no brainer to look into getting a scorpion. Unless someone here has more knowledge about why one may be better.

This has been an on going question for the past 10+ years and to put it bluntly the conclusion has been that core buyers of the E series (and other USDM Shimanos with more abundant direct JDM equivalents of the same era) are simply unaware, even today, that  the JDM reels even exist and this is reflected in the prices.   There is just a never ending supply of guys completely unaware of cheap JDM Shimanos and willing to pay absurd amounts of money for the USDM version branded as Curado Es, Cores and Calais DC.

Looks like a good group of guys ! The guy offered the scorpion for 125$. Looked in decent shape but definitely used. I’ll wait a bit and when the time comes I’ll be looking into the JDM side of things. Best response I found on another forum scorpion is the same as the E7 except for handle knobs, anti reverse pawl, and paint. The stock bearings are better in the scorpion as well IMO. I have several of both and prefer the scorpion. I think he will love the 1500 they are great reels.
