papajoe222 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I don't build many rods, so it takes a while to get comfortable doing some things. Trim bands are one thing I still struggle with. That is, until I watched a YouTube video that Jake Hutchinson did. It adds about ten seconds (for me) to wrapping a guide and there's no concern about a loose band. I've tried a number of ways for adding trim bands to both the beginning and end of a guide wrap and sometimes it would take wrapping nine guides before I felt confident not to mention the extra time and effort they took. Anyone have an easy, single trim band video. I'm going to attempt a build with micro guides and would like to add them. Quote
Super User MickD Posted December 12, 2024 Super User Posted December 12, 2024 The method shown works well for 3 or more threads, as does a nail knot (3 with metallics usually works, 4 or more with regular thread). Trickier is making a single thread trim band, but it's not that tricky by wrapping the trim thread under your main wrap with a separate pull through for it, then when the main wrap is done, wrap the trim thread a couple turns, pull it through, then "unwrap" it carefully until you have a single trim thread. You can also use CP to pin a single thread trim band if you are using CP on the rest of the wrap. A recent article in Rodmaker Magazine showed this method. 2 Quote
