Morello87 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 So I am looking at this rod at bass pro, I originally wanted it in a 7’ medium but I see that bass pro only carries it in 7’ MH and 7’3 medium. the only rod I have is 5’4 ML rod I got from turners, I only fish a local park and sometimes up in lake Gregory in San Bernardo CA. i might be getting a MH bait caster as well so that I have two rods later. My question is if I should get it in mh at7’ or if I should be getting the 7’3 in medium, I was concerned that the extra inches might make it difficult to cast. And since the bait caster will be Mh I am concerned have my only second rod also be a MH. i still need to learn what techniques to be tossing on each rod but I believe my spinning rod should be for bottom contact Ned rigs and c-rigs? And I should be t-rig and chatter baits on the bait caster? So assuming that is what the spinning rod is for, that would determine if having it as medium is mandatory or is it ok to have it MH (because of the length) and having a bait caster as MH as well. hope that makes sense lol ty! LCG Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 I recently bought a Daiwa Tatula XT spinning rod from Bass Pro. I have the two piece, 7' M-F model. Now I have only fished with it once and did not catch any fish, so take this with a grain of salt. However, I did cast a few different plastics and lures to get a feel for her. The rod is rated 1/8-3/4oz. I threw weightless trick worms, Ned rigs, senkos, light spinnerbaits, and regular chatterbaits. In my opinion, the rating should be 3/16-5/8oz, with a sweet spot of 1/4-1/2oz. The action of the rod is fast, but bends a decent amount at full load. The power in the rod is stout for a medium, she's got some backbone. She threw everything well expect for the chatterbait which was right at 3/4oz, it felt over loaded at this weight to me. The reason for my purchase of this rod was to compliment my MH casting rods. I usually use a ML-F spinning rod, but wanted something to fish around moderate vegetation in the summer. My intent is to use this as both a primary senko and texas rigged Ned rig and drop shot rod, but also as a do almost everything rod when I only take one rod with me. I need more time with it and some fish catches but so far I am happy with this rod, very comfortable to hold, with good sensitivity (Braid to leader). I feel this rod would compliment a MH casting rod well in the right situation, ie summer with weed growth. My ML-F also compliments MH casting rod as it covers the whole range of lures. However, ML is a bit light in the summer time here in Ontario, Canada. Looking forward to using this medium powered rod more once the snow melts. Quote
Morello87 Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 Yes that was my thought process as well since the casting rod I might get will be MH, but bass pro only has the tatula in 7’3. Do you guys think the extra 3 inches doesn’t matter to have it be medium or is it better to have it as MH at 7’ Quote
