Casts long smooth and strong. no wind knots, little memory. Started fishing with spinning reel when I was 6 years old. Used 8# Trilene XL. Later went to 4# XL. Never had any wind knots. Tried 10# Sufix 832 on a 7'2" LF Fenwick River Runner. Didn't like it. Didn't use it enough to get wind knots. I did send a jig flying when 30# braid wrapped around the tip of my only MHF spinning rod. 15 hours ago, bulldog1935 said: I'll chime in - especially on spinning tackle, probably can't go wrong with any YGK braid. The rule on coated braids, softer coatings cast greater distance on spinning tackle. Direct comparison of Varivas with YGK Bornrush, the YGK cast farther. Finer fibers, tighter weave and harder coatings, which are found in spendier grades, have the advantage preventing line dig on baitcasters - they also have abrasion advantages. In YGK, the hardest coating is on WPX1 - Varivas hardest coating is Si-X. (they're all made by Izanas to different specs) I read all the time how much better braid is for spinning. Maybe I haven't tried the right braid. I have several used spinning reels that I never put line on. Guess I should try some YGK. Small guides on a spinning rod is another thing I didn't like. I felt they hurt casting distance. Others disagree. Again, maybe because I wasn't using the most suitable line. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted December 18, 2024 Super User Posted December 18, 2024 @new2BC4bass When you combine threadline braid with manual bail technique, every complaint about spinning tackle goes away. Keeping free hand close to the spool, you can feather the line coming off the spool, and keep the line just as tight as using thumb on baitcaster - no run-away line in the wind. When I loaned a shore-fishing spinning finesse combo to a friend, he was so floored with the light-lure distance, he went home and bought two - the same rod, and another longer. BTW, this reel is loaded w/ 6-lb 832 - when I tried YGK, it's 16-lb in the same diameter, and I never went back to 832. You'll also get spoiled by the total absence of line memory - this alone for me was enough to chase BFS across the board. 1 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 18, 2024 Super User Posted December 18, 2024 ^ Everything Bulldog says about spinning is correct. I've never had issues with line-twist or wind-knots using light braid on my spinning gear. 1 Quote
