MyKeyBe Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Always. Trim the skirt like a jig, and 98% of the time a curly tail grub trailer. 1% split tail trailer and the other 1% a boot tail of some sort. Never a trailer hook. A spinner bait is a good bait by it self and a curly tail is a good bait by it self. Good lure plus good lure equals GREAT lure! Maybe? Probably. 😂 Quote
papajoe222 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Only if the water temperature is below 60 degrees. It helps keep the bait up in the water column and adds resistance so I can retrieve it slower. The only one I use is a Kalin's Lunker Grub. In the day, it was an Uncle Josh pork rind. 3 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted December 5, 2024 Super User Posted December 5, 2024 This is just me and my lakes. I like using a trailer but 100% of all bass caught with a spinnerbait have been without a trailer. It is my opinion too, that from my experience, I am sometimes finding it harder to feel the vibration from the blades. The vibration just seems more subdued. I wont write them off. I know using a trailer will work some day in the future for me. Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Rarely But I almost always use a trailer hook 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 5, 2024 Super User Posted December 5, 2024 Seldom. I'll add half a stick worm for a little extra weight If needed. 1 Quote
padlin Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I’m another Always, but after seeing this thread I’m going to try without. Quote
JHoss Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Very seldom. Only if I'm missing a bunch of bites- I usually add a trailer before a trailer hook. Quote
Brian11719 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Always...but that's also based on the type of spinnerbait I prefer and as mentioned above me some of the spinnerbaits out there don't have as much of a need for one as others. 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 7, 2024 Super User Posted December 7, 2024 SK Blade Minnow about 90 percent of the time. Quote
GRiver Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Depends, if I’m yo-yoing, I like about half a floating worm. My theory is that it keeps the tail up when bouncing it along the bottom. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 8, 2024 Super User Posted December 8, 2024 Never. But I have been planning to try skirt-less paddle tail. 1 Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted December 8, 2024 Author Super User Posted December 8, 2024 The "NEVER" group has surprised me. Maybe I'll try that approach this next season, as I'm currently an "ALWAYS". Thanks for the replies. oe 1 Quote
Chilidog Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Seldom. When fishing at night I will fish with a trailer. 2 Quote

lunkerboss923 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Never, but i always use a stinger/trailer hook. Bass short strike that spinnerbait and after many misses, I decided to try it. I landed ever last one of them. Never again will I fish a spinnerbait without a stinger hook. My spinnerbait of choice is a Megabass SV-3, built in trailer. Try an SV-3. Quote
rboat Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Always, just for some bulk. Sometimes it is just a tail of a plastic worm or a small grub. This is where my used plastics are recycled. Cut off the ripped part and use the rest. 1 Quote
