rgasr63 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I am going back to Big Game. I have been using some other brands and they don't work as good as Big Game. 4 Quote

FishTax Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Trilene xl casts really well and is smooth. Big game always on shelf. Also trying bps excel, got a great deal so it’s on shelf imagine that. 5 Quote

Actually have large spools of 8# and 12# but if I had to chose using only one line between Big Game and Siege, it would be Siege. Is Big Game more abrasion resistant? Fortunately that doesn't figure in where I fish...or ever fished. 2 Quote

I used a red box that said elite on it. That I read is called rebound recovery. Big Game has better rebound so I get some longer service life IMHO. The other lines I tried were working with a thin diameter. They advertised a 15 lb line that had the diameter of a 10 lb line.knots and abrasion strength became a issue for me. Big Game from 8-20 lb test works best for me. Everyone has their favorite and that's a good thing. The old saying goes "One man's trash is another man's treasure" 5 1 Quote

VolFan Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 I have actually really enjoyed Suffix ProMix in 8 and 12 lb test. I have never heard anyone else even mention it. It is pretty inexpensive. YMMV 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 8, 2024 Super User Posted December 8, 2024 Currently it's Sunline Deifer (both versions)and Machinegun Cast. Sadly, I think all are discontinued. 1 Quote

Pro mix was one of the better ones for me. Then again almost all of the lines were pretty good. 1 Quote

Tom Have you tried Machinegun Cast? You would need to get it from a JDM site. I tried the old version and hated it. The newer offering has been great. It is similar but different from Deifer Armilo. It doesn't last as long and is not tough. I'm not sure how the larger sizes will handle swimbaits though. I use it for crankbaits and topwater. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Big Game is really hard to beat on casting gear. I have as much confidence in 10lb BG in cover as 15lb InvizX. 2 Quote

However, while I do prefer Tatsu in almost every FC scenario now, I started out with InvisX and it treated me OK. Landed this Freaky of a Musky on 10lb InvisX while fishing casting gear & a jerkbait for Smallies. So it's not too bad In my mind, especially for price. A-Jay 9 Quote

A-Jay Wow, nice...I can see 10lb being strong enough to get her in out in the open, but its the teeth I would worry about. We have so many pickerel around here. I've lost so many 110s and TN60s to 2lb pickerel when they turn and dig. Im not dogging InvizX, I really like it, its pretty much all I use on casting gear. I used to use Big game in the winter when cheaper FCs would stiffen up and get tough to manage, but since going totally to invizX I dont use mono at all. I still think mono, particularly BG has some advantages over InvizX and most budget-mid priced FCs. I feel like when FC stretches to near breaking point, it weakens the line and I havent noticed that at all with BG. I think the abrasion resistance and knot strength on BG and other good monos is better than most if not all FCs Ive used. 1 Quote
Super User senile1 Posted December 11, 2024 Super User Posted December 11, 2024 I haven't used every brand so I can't say I have a favorite. I have some I have used that I liked so I continue to buy them. Currently I have spools of Sufix Siege, Sufix Elite, Berkley Big Game, Trilene XL, and Trilene XT. Quite a few years ago, I used Stren but I had some batches that seemed to have more stretch than I liked so I stopped buying it. 1 Quote
KP Duty Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Pline CXX. Shopping by diameter is key here. I use the 8lb (.012") for 80% of my cranking, and it breaks at about 14lbs. Quote

Super User senile1 Posted December 11, 2024 Super User Posted December 11, 2024 @newapti5 If your drag is set correctly the line should only break if the musky's teeth cut it. Rules of thumb for setting your drag range from 20 to 30 percent up to a third of the pound test of the line. I have always used approximately 1/3rd of the pound test of the line. 1 Quote

This fish was hooked outside the mouth, top of her face actually. After that I took my time, relied on years of experience fighting & landing Pelagic fish much bigger than this from the Gulf Stream, AND I got supremely lucky. Got the whole thing on video. First part of the clip is "the story". Second part is the actual landing of the fish. btw - I landed a pretty beefy musky this past Sept on a chatterbait fishing 15 lb Tatsu and she had totally choked the bait. Again I got lucky. Is it spring yet ? A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 11, 2024 Super User Posted December 11, 2024 I use Big Game in 8 lb, 10 lb, and 15 lb for bass fishing. BPS Excel in 4 lb, and 6 lb for panfish. 4 Quote
