rosewalt Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I see a number of Okuma reels listed on E Bay can anyone tell me about this brand. Also does anyone have any good sites other than e bay for quality used equipment. Thanks Quote
Big T Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I have had a couple of Okuma's lower end spinning reels for that I used for saltwater fishing. They are pretty good reels for the money. I have buddy who has caught 20 # King Mackeral with a 50 series Avenger spinning reel that I sold him. If I were going to buy another I would try to get the Vs series. It is their top of the line model or the Epixor series in spinning. I beleive there are several members on this site that use Okuma's excusively. You may want to ask Fish Chris, I believe he uses these reels. I have seen some of the monster fish he catches so I know they can handle the load Hope this helps, Big T Quote
bugman Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 From what I have seen written in a few forums most like he spinning reels but keep away from the baitcasters. That being said, I have not fished either. Quote
jacktrevally Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I will stay well clear from the VS spinning version. It has many problems that I have spotted when using the reels and others have reported problems too! Value for moneyy for the occasional angler. If you are thingking of buying a good fishing reel, go for a shimano or a Daiwa! Quote
Crabcakes Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 The epixor alumina and other mid to low end spinning reels have served me well and really taken a beating. I've used them as surf reels and for other saltwater tasks and they've handled the rough environment well. I have heard less encouraging things about the baitcasters and high end offerings but have never used these myself. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted February 4, 2007 Super User Posted February 4, 2007 All I use is Okuma spinning reels. I love them. They are solid reels and a great price. I would suggest only two models. The Epixor (Not the Epix) and the Inspira. For geteral bass fishing go with the size 20. Like has been said---Stay away from the Low Profile Baitcasters for a few more years. Give them time to get the bugs out of them. Quote
rosewalt Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Thanks for the feedback. I love this site I have been amazed and pleased with the knowledgeable feed back I have gotten on this site. Once again thanks and keep it up. Quote
