softwateronly Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Looking for a 2fer. Anyone use these? Thinking of minnow shaking and 2.5" tubes. I like the options of 1/4 & 3/8oz heavy w/ a 1/0 or 2/0 hook for tubes at a reasonable price. Quote
Solution JN94 Posted January 2 Solution Posted January 2 I recently bought a pack of the 1/8oz #2s for fishing small swimbaits and like them. Will prob buy some more 2 Quote

softwateronly Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 @JN94 I ended up looking at mustad's site and got in on their bf sale which was 35% off. Ended up with 6 different weight/sizes and they are what I hoped they would be. In 1/0 I got bulk in 3, 5, 7, and 12g and in 6/0 7g and 12g. The 1/0 are great for both jighead minnow and jamming in little 2.5" tubes and have already caught fish with these with both techniques. In my mind I thought I needed a 2x hook to do this, but this is stout enough to know I was wrong in my assumption. The 6/0 is for 6.5" fish rollers, 7" armor shads and 7" sakamata shads and fits perfectly. I caught one decent Northern on it, and the hook was sharp enough and stout enough to easily penetrate their boney mouth and hang on till the boat. Buying in bulk and with BF deal put me somewhere in the range of $.58 a head, eases the pain a bit when the broken concrete monster of chicago's shoreline eats my bait. I recommend them for sure. scott 2 Quote

It scales with the hook size, so 6/0 is a thicker diameter from the 1/0, but I'd consider it a ML wire. I was able to reel set it on that northern with a M/RF casting rod without issue. I think barlows lists the diameter on their site. scott https://barlowstackle.com/mustad-jig-hooks-style-32746-np-bn--p393/ Quote
