GetFishorDieTryin Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Depends what you mean by cold. Since youre in TX im going to think about 40-50. They been around forever and casts like a cracker, but the shallow shad rap still whacks em. That bill fishes through wood and cover well. This one is unique and expensive, but I do well with them. PH customs sub/flat P. They are a flat crank with an aggressive action. You can burn and bounce it into cover without it blowing out or snagging like most other flatsides. Theyre small and weight 1/2oz (i think) which I guess is why they casts so well for a flat balsa bait. This is the first aggressive crankbait I use in late winter and it serves as a good changeup to squarebills all year. The sub dives to about 16" and flat p get a little deeper than 5' IME. 1 Quote

I don't remember them that far back but its very possible. Casey is a great painter. I do remember talking with and buying baits from him back in the day and I still have some of his old square bills from 2010 or so when it was pretty much a one man deal. 1 1 Quote

primetime Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Worden's Timber Tiger - Older lure but when I used to throw cranks up north, they worked great. Also the Luhr-Jensen Speed Trap is a great lil shallow running crank that I know lots of guys still throw. I used to also throw the Rapala DT-Flat Series alot..DT-3 I think it was for shallow. No rattle but flat side was great in cold like the shad rap. Shallow shad rap would be good, cranks still make noise without a rattle with treble hooks and vibrations.... Maybe a Smaller Lipless crank like Spro Aruku Shad with head down, I throw them in weeds and fallen trees and they come through pretty good. 1 Quote

A-Jay Maybe a bit off topic but its the opposite with a couple twists. The original Hybrid Hunter was designed by a Taiwanese lure maker("Strike Pro") in the mid 2000s. It got a reputation as a secret weapon by various local sticks on some big tourney lakes down south. The lure company started going under, and one of those sticks who also happened to be a lure tester for SK(Todd Castledine) tipped SK off, SK bought the design(maybe tooling too?) and the rest is history. The 6th sense model actually got quite a bit of flak when it came out for being a HH copy. The bill design has been around for decades but never quite implemented like with the SK. Like you said killer bait. I love the full size and my main fishing buddy always has the Jr tied on. 1 Quote

I figured SK copied Yozuri's little rattletrap looking bait with the same bill design that has been out since the late '00s. Quote

Would love to get an original one day to put on the shelf, nothing else comes through grass like this design. The only thing i will add is this: The SK HH is 1oz, HH Jr is 1/2oz. I found the HH doesnt cast too well with my MH rods because it tops out at their max weight, but my H rods struggle casting it since its not too areodynamic. The Jr casts good on M-MH rods but is too small for what i want out of this bait. The 6th Sense one bridges the gap. Although it might have scrutiny like you mentioned its a full size bait, but 3/4oz. Which in my opinion is the perfect weight+size Quote
