Super User Jar11591 Posted March 16 Super User Posted March 16 Went and scoped out a nearby lake this morning. It’s been extremely mild this month so I was hopeful. Still mostly frozen with some open water around the shorelines. Some puddles atop the ice. Today is near 70° and very windy so that should speed it further. I hope to be fishing next week. 1 Quote
WaskaCrank12 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Friday it was 60 and sunny here - Saturday it was 18, blizzard conditions with 55 mph winds (got about 6 inches of snow) - Today (Sunday) it is 18 and sunny with 5 mph winds - although there had been some melting of the ice on the lakes (maybe small amounts of open water 3 to 6 feet from the shoreline, near water inlets/drains) there is still plenty of melting that will need to take place before the over 2 feet thick ice is off the area lakes here - although day time temps will start to rise above freezing it looks like the night time temps will be below freezing until at least early April here Quote

I haven’t checked the bigger lakes but all of the small ones and the rivers are thawed. The bigger lake around with a temp probe says 41 degrees and warming so that’s thawed out (it just needs another 18’ of depth). We are 60 and rainy now and 65 and sunny this week. Boat pickup is next weekend so I should be on the water Sunday… Go catch some, but don't post the photos. Email the photos to me. Then I'll post them in the "Latest Catch" thread and make-believe that I'm catching bass. And the guys will say, "That Swamp Girl sure can cowgirl." 1 minute ago, WaskaCrank12 said: Friday it was 60 and sunny here - Saturday it was 18, blizzard conditions with 55 mph winds (got about 6 inches of snow) - Today (Sunday) it is 18 and sunny with 5 mph winds - although there had been some melting of the ice on the lakes (maybe small amounts of open water 3 to 6 feet from the shoreline, near water inlets/drains) there is still plenty of melting that will need to take place before the over 2 feet thick ice is off the area lakes here - although day time temps will start to rise above freezing it looks like the night time temps will be below freezing until at least early April here 1 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted March 16 Super User Posted March 16 I see you bought tickets too, @A-Jay: Meanwhile, on the coast, everyday is the same day. The ocean doesn't let us ride the Temperature Coaster Magnum. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 16 Super User Posted March 16 We literally sprinted into spring here. Frogs are out, wife's tulips are racing out of the ground. Local river is at 52* and lakes are climbing into the 50's. March has been a Lamb. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 16 Author Super User Posted March 16 We're still trying to get rid of winter here - Tuesday Night Snow likely, possibly mixed with rain, becoming all snow after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. North northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. 1 Quote

That system could completely miss us, or pulverize us, depending on the track. Right now it’s supposed to go through Iowa which would clip southern MN. It could shift to the north though. Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted March 17 Super User Posted March 17 I'm starting to see the surest sign of spring in New England. The Red Cheeked Males of Maine have donned their spring plumage, i.e. shorts and t-shirts. This happens annually when the temps climb into the forties. 1 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted March 17 Super User Posted March 17 I got some open water near me. In another day or two the lake will be totally thawed. I’m going fishing this week. Earliest I can remember. Stoked. 1 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Last two days have been in the upper 70's and low 80's here in Nebraska. Tomorrow, blizzard warning. I may get to run my snowblower for the first time this season(?!!) Then it's back to 64 degrees and sunny on Saturday. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 19 Author Super User Posted March 19 We have chance of snow tomorrow - back to the 50s for Friday...then more snow on Sunday Follow the bouncing ball..... 1 Quote

Takes me about an hour to remove the mower deck, install the snowblower, hydraulic lines, wheel weights and chains. Picture from last winter when I had to snow-blow lanes in the yard so the little dog could get out and do his business. 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted Thursday at 03:30 PM Super User Posted Thursday at 03:30 PM I saw a small pond this morning that was half open, so I drove to my pond, but it's still frozen. However, it'll be liquid pretty soon. I won't fish right away. I'll wait until it warms a bit. Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted Thursday at 05:39 PM Super User Posted Thursday at 05:39 PM I had open water and was going to go out fishing, but winds were blowing 25 steady and up to 40mph. Small boat, high winds, and frigid water are a bad mix so I opted not to go for safety reasons. 1 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted 4 hours ago Super User Posted 4 hours ago We have three days with no precipitation in the forecast, but then there's snow forecast for six of the next seven days. When I finally catch a bass, even if it's just 16", it'll feel like 16 pounds. 1 Quote
