I don't know about you guys, but this is the time of year when I've abandoned coats and mittens. I wear a thin vest and fingerless gloves and am good to go. I'm so acclimated to cold that I'm comfy and so, so sick of coats and mittens too. I'm one of many who feel this way. I'm starting to see guys in t-shirts and shorts walking into the grocery store. 1 Quote

That's a little aggressive but wouldn't surprise me either. The high on Monday in southwestern MN/Sioux Falls, SD is supposed to be 55 degrees. 😎 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 21 Global Moderator Posted February 21 I’m getting reports here of frost as deep as 5’ under the roads and 2-3’ off the roads. We haven’t had frost like this in years! The roads are heaving so I’ll be thankful when the frost goes away. Right now I feel like I’m riding a rodeo bull every time I drive. 1 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted February 21 Super User Posted February 21 Local NWS is forecasting a warming trend over the next several days. Looks like an extended period of high temperatures in the 30s across Northern MI beginning Sunday and lasting into the middle portions of next week. A few chances for light snow showers as well this weekend into early next week. btw - so far this is the FIRST day this month (21st) that it hasn't snowed here. But it's early yet. A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted February 26 Super User Posted February 26 Fool’s Spring has arrived and I’m putting on my jester hat! Yesterday was 50°, today mid 40s, and most of the 2 week forecast is mid to high 40s. At this rate, we should be under 2’ of snow again right when I pull the boat out of the garage to rig it up. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted February 26 Author Super User Posted February 26 Dunno if it'll last, but Spring is definitely making an early visit. Snow is almost gone from my yard, temps in the 40s and 50s for the foreseeable future and the ice is getting thinner on the lakes. Had a truck fall through near me just the other day and the Sheriffs Dept has put out a warning. Can't wait for open water. 2 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 26 Super User Posted February 26 It's still white here with 3-5" more forecast for tomorrow, but spring is definitely coming. The white is neither snow nor ice; it's slush. Now I just need the bogs and ponds to melt. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 I’m in the same place as you guys. Nice warming trend to kill the snow. Ice will thin and keep thinning. It won’t be early ice out but at this rate mid march. Talked to the boat dealer and they might have a window next week to rig it so…. 3 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 I'm still hoping to cast at the end of March. I won't launch because it will be too cold and dangerous for that, but I can cast from the end of my boardwalk and I expect I'll catch my first bass. Maybe not the first time, but it's a shallow bay and should warm fairly quickly. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 Basically all the snow in my yard is gone minus the largest pile in one corner. A week ago it was bitter cold with 3-4 inches of fresh snow all over. We went from extreme winter to spring in a week. More mild weather is in the forecast too. But, I will say, we need moisture. I'd just assume get it in the form of rain now than snow. 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 33 minutes ago, TnRiver46 said: flooding killed another couple dozen people in Appalachia last week I've literally never seen a flood living here in MN. Since 1991. Our landscape and infrastructure can handle A LOT of water, even in a short period of time. Plus we have a lot of lakes, rivers, and other wetlands that can absorb it too. I'm sure if I lived near or along a river my view might change. Been through drought after drought after drought and blizzards galore. Just never a flood. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 the water temp at the bigger lake with a monitoring station is now reading 3.5C. That's enough to get the ice melting plus the lake level is coming up a couple inches every day now with no rain which will help break up the ice. Now we just need a couple good storms to bring it up another 20'. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 While we've been enjoying air temps close to or slightly above freezing, there's still plenty of snow up here. And then there's Lynn Striking a Pose on Mount Menderchuck ~ A-Jay 4 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted February 27 Super User Posted February 27 We've had a few says above freezing here in OH, and a fair amount of rain to go with the warmer temps. There's some areas of open water on the local lakes, and the remaining ice looks to be 2" or less. If the forecast holds, my first muskie trip will be Monday the 10th. 2 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 1 Super User Posted March 1 Temps dropping to single digits tonight, followed by a couple cold days but then it’s right back to mid 40s and 50s. Maybe we’ll make it out of March unscathed?? Maybe the water will open up? That’s the clown in me talking. See above. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted Tuesday at 07:54 PM Super User Posted Tuesday at 07:54 PM Rivers are liquid again. A little viscous around the bridges but they’re flowing. Forecast is still looking good. Quote
Super User gim Posted Wednesday at 12:22 AM Super User Posted Wednesday at 12:22 AM What started off as a steady rain today has turned to sleet/freezing rain and now to a heavy wet snow. It is expected to continue through the night, with snow totals of 3-5 inches by tomorrow. This is going to be the typical March storm, which I refer to as "heart attack snow" with a very high water content. My snowblower can't move this concrete. It comes out of the chute like ketchup. Shoveling it out of the question. I just let Mother Nature run its course with these. On the bright side, it's really good for the dry landscape. 1 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted Wednesday at 04:56 PM Super User Posted Wednesday at 04:56 PM We are getting a good rain here in Virginia with the Facebook meteorologists warning of high winds and possible hail. I went out and put a tarp over the boat cover and put the truck cover on just in case. We are fishing Friday, so I want to make sure the boat is dry. Quote
