I don't have the money for a Quantum PT so I'm thinking about getting the Quantum Kevin VanDam Signature Series Baitcast Reel or the Quantum Accurist Gold Baitcast Reel. They are both $80 right now online at BPS, but the signature series is is on sale from being regularly $100. I would think i should get the signature series because it originally costs more, but I just wanted to see what you guys think.

I have had my Accurist for over 6 or 7 years now and I still love it.  It has never failed me nor has it needed any repairs.  So my vote goes to the Quantum Accurist Gold Baitcast Reel.

Although I just bought the Energy PT the other day.  Haven't used it yet.   :o

I also use the Quantum Accurist 500CX, bought from cabela's for $65.  I bought a blue one and a red one.  I like them a ton, never had a problem, but am considering selling them for some new spinning outfits.

I'm not a Quantum guy, but my old club tournament partner had a slew of Accurists, and he liked them alot.  Seems like the most popular Quantum reel, or at least the one I hear the most positive reviews about.

OOPPSS! A slight defecftion from the Pflueger Mooks. I needed one more reel and just bought one from POND HOPPER: an Accurist 500 Left Hand Retrieve that REEL MECH worked on and he never used I got it for a great price so I defected a bit here but too good to pass up

I had one of the earliest models of KVD Quantums(it was before PT). I put that thing through HELL for 2-3 years. It was one of my first baitcasters, and I probably did 60-70% of my fishing with it for the first year and a half. I was bank fishing, never oiled or cleaned it, left it in the back of my truck on its rod, dropped it in the mud and washed it in the lake a few times, you name it, that reel worked well considering how I treated it. That being said, the PT Quantums are far better than the others. Also, you can get a cheap version of Shimano that is better. You will never see me recomend a Shakespeare product.BTW, every non-PT reel I ever had stripped its gears. ALL of them. Eventually.

Sooooo.....you took a "Quantam Leap" and have become a "Quantam Mook"

Next thing you know it'll be a Shimano!

I had the same dilemma one time and went with the Accurist Gold.  It's pretty much the same real as the KVD with a smaller profile.  I just couldn't bring myself to fish with a "signature" reel....if it's so good, then why do they need to have a pro's name on it to sell it??? :-?

My vote: Accurist CX500

...by the way, you'll catch the same number of fish on both reels. :o
