Fishin49er Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Im looking to buy a new combo for c-riggin, some pitchin, froggin, swimbaits. I've already got the reel picked out, an Abu Garcia Revo S. Im looking for a 7 foot Heavy or Extra Heavy rod to pair with it. Id like it to be rated for about 2 ounce lures. Ive got 2 picked out, so tell me what yall think of them and feel free to add other options. Id like to keep the rod under 150. 1) All Star Team All Star Big Boy- 7 foot Heavy http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=51843&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=2&hvarSubCode=6&hvarTarget=browse 2) Kistler Graphite Plus- 7 foot Extra Heavy http://www.***.com/descpageRDCKISTLER-KGPCR.html Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 the all star big boy will pull down a house!!! Quote
northgabassfisher Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 here you go http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1378177&cp=1254532.1254920.1305557&parentPage=family&searchId=1305557 only $63 lol jk but i would go with a 7ft avid st.croix heavy power fast action it will run you about $170, its goin to be hard to find a rod for swimbaits, frogs, pitchin, and c rig. i would get a rod for crig and pitchin, then a rod for frogs, then one for swimbaits Quote
Super User flechero Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 Out of those 2 and within your price range, I like the All Star BB best. Two others come to mind, the Okuma guide series or St. Croix premier musky rods. If I can make a suggestion- the swimbait part of this equation is killing your rod selection. Any rod rated for 2 oz is going to have a very stout tip... bad for everything you listed but swimbaits. Why not get something a little lighter that will excel in c-rig, frog & pitchin' and either fish smaller swimbaits or address swimbait in another rod? You can pick up a house brand (BPS or Cabela's) musky rod for $30-$100, just to fish the swimbaits with. That seems to make the most sense to me, unless you fish swimbaits an awful lot, then reverse and buy the nicer swimbait rod and go house brand for the rest. Quote
Fishin49er Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Ok, well the biggest swimbait ill be fishing would probably be something like a Mattlures, so around 1.5 ounces. On that note what Power would you reccommend? I just thought I would need a pretty stout rod, maybe not as much as I thought. Quote
fishnde Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 You might consider a St croix legend tournament tbc70hf frog and slop rod I just bought one tonight, might fit the ticket rated up to 1 1/2 oz. Quote
Super User flechero Posted January 25, 2007 Super User Posted January 25, 2007 Any of the St. Croix hvy's will work well, I use a 5C70HF as my c-rig, frog, hvy pitching, small swimbaits (matt's) and even buzzbait rod around the grass matts. ...lol I also have the slop & frog blank fishnde suggested but neither of them fall in the price range you mentioned... but the SCII does, I guess that's the PC70HF. The AC70HF retails at about $170 so it's a little over buit a nice rod. Also the Rogue MBH 706C and MB 706C look like good candidates in the $160-$170 range. If you are open to a 6' 10" rod, the TAS 827 is a good choice. Beyond those, most 7' heavy rods will do this. Just to be clear, I haven't held that All Star BB you linked us to so if you think it has a light enough tip for the original purpose, don't let me rain on the parade.... I liken it to the lighter muskie rods and they have about no tip action. ...lol Quote
hookem12_0 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Get yourself a Falcon Cara. They make a couple of 7' and 7'6" Heavys. They also make a couple of 7' and 7'6" xtra heavys that could pull around a buick. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty. Quote
FlipnFanatic Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I am partial to Kistler, but that is my preference. I also like St. Croix, and even though I'm not an All-Star fan I know a lot of guys that are. I say you go buy both 'cause you can never have too many rods..... or reels..... or baits..... 8-) Quote
