I need some advice on a drop shot rod I am considering.  I am looking at the Shimano Crucial 7'2" Drop Shot Spinning Rod.  Here is my question.  Would you recommend the Medium Power (6-12 lb line - 1/8 to 3/8 oz. lure) or the Med-Heavy Power (6-15 lb. line - 1/8 to 1/2 oz. lure).  I fish both smaller bodies of water where I will be casting and large bodies of water (Great Lakes) where I will be drifting.  I was leaning towards the medium power, but the medium-heavy power isn't much stiffer and I think would handle the larger bodies of water, but I don't want to lose any sensitivity.  Please let me know if you happened to use either on of these rods and what you would recommend.  Thanks.

Go for the medium for sure. I use a medium action rod, and alot of the time, I feel that it might just be a little too much rod. Sometimes I wish for a medium light. The power you gain with a medium heavy would be a moot point if you are using the 6 or 8 pound test that is typical for dropshotting.  You would not be able to apply any of the extra force that a mh affords you with the lighter lines anyway. Crucials are sweet rods!

I own the Shimano Crucial 7'2" M DS spinning rod and I think it's great.  If you can get to a store where you can compare the two you're looking at in person, take a spooled spinning reel with you and try them out.  I'd use a small jighead, one you'll be using with it, and toss it out, then work it.  See if you feel a difference between them.  If you wanted to test the power, hook it on a display shelf (or a willing clerks arm) and gently give it pressure.  Only you'll know what feels right for you.  On the other hand, if you can't compare in person, I agree with fourbizzle, get the medium.  That's my opinion.  It is a great rod, no matter which you choose.

Good choice on a drop shot rod.  I would definately go with the medium.  You can handle big fish on a medium, you might just have to play them a little more.  Drop shotting with a med/hvy I have pulled hooks out of fishes mouth.  I havent really had that problem with a medium or medium light.
