Obscure Zoom baits

I have a 20% off e-coupon from Academy and looking to take advantage of their cheaper Zoom prices.  There are numerous Zoom soft plastics I haven't tried.  Do you fish any less popular Zoom's? Some I'm looking at-

-Mag shakey tail

-G tail ring worm

-Magnum fluke

-Magnum finesse worm

-Fluke stick

-Original 6" Zoom worm

The big flukes are great if there are huge bass or pike where you fish.

The magnum finesse worms are a good alternative for wacky rigs, gives the bass something different than the same shaped senko for the 30th time that day.

Both of the "Magnum" baits you got are great

Right on.  The Magnum finesse worm looks like a a small stick bait and I'd imagine you'd fish it in similar situations.

I’ve used the 4” G tail ring worms before, usually in green pumpkin or June bug. Use them on a 1/0 hook, 1/16 or 1/8 oz bullet weight and 6 pound line. Can’t say that I caught any huge fish, but plenty of two pound and smaller.

Word.  I was definitely going to grab some...they are under $3 a pack.  The original 6" g-tail worm is a keeper...Clausen won the classic in Florida using one years ago.

I would spend it all on Magnum Pumpkin Lizards.

Lol...earned you a 'solution'.

Super Chunk jr.

Baby Chunk

Baby Speed Craw

Fluke jr.

Centipede

Mag 2

Uni Toad

Ring Worm

Mag speed worm

Mag trick worm

Mag Fluke

Mag Speed Craw

Creepy Crawlers

The two I most consistently could not live without from Zoom are the fluke and the speed craw.  Speed craw is my favorite finesse jig trailer and the fluke is my favorite weightless plastic!

I’m starting to really like the Trick Magnum and the Z-Craw.

I’m sure everyone has heard of and used the Zoom UV Speed Worm at some point.
As I’ve said many times the Magnum is my absolute #1 plastic.

No other bait accounts for more 5lb + bass in my box.

If you use any type of swim worm this is the one you need regardless of brand

How do you fish it? I've caught a few fish with them, but haven't had that type of experience. Maybe I'm not doing it right.

The majority of the time I swim them as intended using a 3/16 oz unpegged.
The most effective is in and through emergent grasses from 1’ to 6’ fow periodically killing it from 4’ to 6’.
After a few seconds of dead sticking I pull up straight and hard to the surface and let it fall back before I start over.

The next few casts are just a straight retrieve back changing speeds with a few quick subsequent turns of the reel.

Another way is weightless on top.
One of the best areas to fish it that way is in obvious “frog water”.
In a pad field, I’ll stop and drop it only in the widest of openings with the same type of retrieve.

You can change it up using a keel weighted hook if you want/need more of a 3/4 horizontal fall but you’ll lose some of the tails action which is unique and the reason why it’s the most deadly of all swim worms.

The Magnum is the most versatile.
If you lose the tail for some reason then just use it as you would any oversized stick bait.

What color do you swear by down there?

In addition to the Speed Worm, I like the 6" G-Tail Worm rigged Texas style.

June Bug is King

I’ll also use Watermelon Red if I ever find clear water.

Yea Junebug has always been king in Florida, can’t say I understand why. Most all my damage was done with a black spinal core or red spinal core made by GilRaker outta Jax. (Worm)

June Bug is a grape/black type color with a mix of green or blue flakes mixed in.

In our tannic stained water the contrast seems to be ideal.
That combination is also darn near perfect for night fishing.

Another thing about June Bug is that it also works in clearer water but to a lesser degree.
Most anglers assume it won’t and change to a green/pumpkin or even lighter shad base color.

For me I’ll use the June Bug to about 2ft visibility in 4’ 6’ fow which is the sweet spot.
The Watermelon/Red is best with visibility down the entire water column.

Point…

This only applies to the larger Magnum I use as I don’t like the standard sized Speed Worm.
When that’s need I use something else.

If I could only have TWO colors, it would be these two. Greenpumpkin a close 3rd. Those Florida strain LMB sure do love purple tho...

The mag finesse worms are great, theyre more like stick bait IMO.

Really like the super hog.  Its the perfect size and profile.

The swimming fluke jrs are probably my favorite finesse swim jig trailer because of the amount of roll.

I dont use them as much anymore, but the mag and standard shaky heads have caught me a lot of fish.

My two biggest *so far* on the t-rigged speed craw are 7.4 and 8.0 😎👍🏻

I agree that it might be even better t rigged than on a jig!  🤣
