Dwilyums Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Got an email this morning they were going away from the Motorguide brand. I kinda thought this for the past year. Quote
Super User gim Posted October 15, 2024 Super User Posted October 15, 2024 Maybe you can be more specific. What do you mean "going away?" Like they're going to stop operating as a company or they're going to stop making electric motors? Quote
Dwilyums Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 Dear Fellow Anglers, We are thrilled to announce an exciting new chapter in our journey. Building on the strong legacy of quality and innovation from our Lowrance® and Simrad® brands, we are transitioning all future trolling motor production under these trusted names. Super User T-Billy Posted October 15, 2024 Super User Posted October 15, 2024 Boo........ I don't need advanced and seamlessly connected. I just need a good reliable cable steer TM, which Motorguide has provided me for many years. 4 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 15, 2024 Super User Posted October 15, 2024 And here I was looking to upgrade to an Xi3 because it had the features I wanted, was more affordable than MinnKota with the same features, and solid performance based on reviews....now what do I do? 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 15, 2024 Super User Posted October 15, 2024 Based on what their website says, its not like its going to just vanish into thin air. It just won't be a standalone company on its own moving forward because Lowrance and Simrad is taking over production. 37 minutes ago, T-Billy said: I just need a good reliable cable steer TM, which Motorguide has provided me for many years. Minnkota is still making the Maxxum bow mount. I have one on my boat and I've used it since I bought it new with my boat in 2015. Pure cable steering. I was actually thinking of upgrading to the Motorguide Tour Pro model next season too. Not anymore. Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Sadness. I loved my true cable steer, old-school Minn Kota All Terrain 40lb trolling motor. Quote

I never had an Xi TM, I had a wireless Motorguide and did not like the wireless especially the foot pedal. Thankfully I got it 90% off thanks to my brother in-law who worked at Atwood otherwise I would’ve been extremely regretful for making that purchase. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 16, 2024 Super User Posted October 16, 2024 Sounds like some rebranding, and not much else. 1 Quote
Scherbacj Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 I’m sure they will keep the top selling models and just rename them under the different brands. 7 hours ago, gimruis said: Based on what their website says, its not like its going to just vanish into thin air. Not anymore. I literally just upgraded to a Lowrance Ghost from a Motorguide cable steer and had some reservations, but I got it all wired up and tested it and I don’t see it being an issue. The steering response is really responsive, and the pedal feels doesn’t feel much different to me. Granted, I haven’t been a 20 year user of cable steer, but I did get used to how they operate and after my initial “test” with the Ghost, I don’t feel bad. Maybe I’ll scoop up a Tour Pro as well and see if people start paying out the nose for them when they go away!😀 Quote
Glynn Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Buyer Beware! I too purchased a new Motor Guide Tour Pro 109# 36 volt trolling motor for my new Ranger bass boat. I've been a fan of MG for over 45 years. I've easily purchased 20 MG units in this time an have only had one issue out of all those units. I received a letter within 2 weeks of registering my new MG Tour Pro indicating it had a recall for some programming issues. I could take it to my local dealer or contact MG via the email supplied on the letter they sent me. Well, it's been days and days since I sent the email and still no response. Today after 5 calls and 6-8 people I'm still no better off! Contacted Mercury. They sent me to Motor Guide. They in turn sent me to two more people. The last guy says Attwood Corporation in Michigan made the motor and parts plus is responsible for responding to the emails for a thumb drive device to update my programming. The Mercury/ Motor Guide rep says, don't call Attwood as they'll send you back to me. I have no idea who fills the orders for the thumb drive. He suggests I wait 30 days for the part to show up in the mail? He had no idea what department in Attwood made the motors originally or where the parts are produced! I call Attwood and after multiple transfers I find a guy who has a phone number....... DRUM ROLL PLEASE.............It's the same freaking number I called that was on the recall letter!!!!!!! WHAT THE HE%# ! Now I'm waiting on a call back! Corporate America right! Now I know how ticked those Evinrude guys were after getting the bomb dropped that Evinrude's were no longer being produced!!!! We'll see how this goes. Quote
